Thanks :D I have found that the latest version installs directly into the system's shared libraries and thus needs to be invoked as root or with sudo; previously you told it where you wanted the static module that was generated and told GZDoom's build script where to find it. GZDoom build seems ok with the new setup (not surprisingly).

Does any one have a link to 4.4.3/ 4.4.4? I've searched everywhere to no avail.

They don't exist. The most recent stable version, as of this writing, is 4.4.2. Development versions of Gzdoom currently identify themselves as 4.5.
