Sad, but since we still have GZDooM and QZDooM, ZDooM won't really totally gone.
Again, still thank Randi for bring ZDooM to us.

I'm deeply sad, but I'm also grateful.
Thank you, Randi, and good luck.

Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
Hi, i'm not very active here but I just want to say, thank you Randi, because ZDoom was my first port and I thought it was the only existing source port to run Doom, when I realized there were other many ports around, tutorials, mods and even forums on the web, it was a pleasure to me to register here and two others I think and I am a part of this vast community now. Good luck in your future, a hug!

Heh, I still remember when I found randomly this site and downloaded the 1.21 version of this port, and it was way better than Doom95. Then I discovered the giant modding scene, and never stopped playing mods for zdoom
Good luck for everything, and have a good life, Mr. Heit!

ZDoom has been one of the best Doom things I've found since 1993. Thanks Randi for all the work!

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do next, Randi. There aren't many people that could've maintained a project like for nearly 2 decades and your mark on the Doom community will endure.

Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
If you want you have chocolate doom . No need to be harsh to a girl who gave herself for an open source project, and tried to expand the original engineFennelFetish wrote:FInally the madness is over. You guys broken so many vanilla standarts and fucked everything up. In multiplayer doom mainly . Piss off and never come back... howgh
Anyway if you read the comment wrote John Carmack when he released the source code of doom:
I think all modern source ports have fulfilled the dream of Carmack, with some of them (like 3DGE and Zdoom based engines) who expanded his "dream" breaking some limits, which, IMHO, is pretty impressive. Some project ideas:
Port it to your favorite operating system.
Add some rendering features -- transparency, look up / down, slopes,
etc.
Add some game features -- weapons, jumping, ducking, flying, etc.
Create a packet server based internet game.
Create a client / server based internet game.
Do a 3D accelerated version. On modern hardware (fast pentium + 3DFX)
you probably wouldn't even need to be clever -- you could just draw the
entire level and get reasonable speed. With a touch of effort, it should
easily lock at 60 fps (well, there are some issues with DOOM's 35 hz
timebase...). The biggest issues would probably be the non-power of two
texture sizes and the walls composed of multiple textures.
...
Have fun.

Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
I remember it was about 2001 when I started mapping for ZDoom. ACS made me wanna learn how to code. Got heavy into Decorate, where I pretty much stay nowadays. Because of this port, I majored in IT, focusing on coding. Graduated Magna Cum Laude.
I don't think that would have happened without Randi and ZDoom. So, thank you. Wherever you're headed, good luck to you. The rest of us, we'll manage.
And never forget the impact you and your work has had on each and every one of us.

Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
Holy shit shitting shitters.
I never thought this day would come, but on the other hand I'm not surprised to see it. Randi has been in and out of the scene for years after all, surely it was a matter of time. The most ironic part is that it happened just as DoomScript was going to be a thing.
Thankfully, ZDoom will live on and those projects now have the freedom to expand as they have always wanted to.

Indeed, GZDoom is still alive and kicking. After all, it just surpassed 10,000 commits on GitHub (even though that was a conjunction of ZDoom and GZDoom alike).

;_; thanks for all the good work Randi. Thank you very much!

Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
But isn't ZDoom where the major mechanics improvements are made? Won't the others die off as well without ZDoom?
Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
Nah. They are perfectly capable of running on their own without ZDoom. In fact, right now, GZDoom has more features and improvements than ZDoom.
Re: ZDoom is Dead (but the site isn't)
Sad to hear this Randi. Thank you, and best of luck in your future endeavors.

Sad to see you go Randi. I've been here for a long time, not as active as other members but I'm always checking out projects and things. Been playing doom for over a decade and more because of your work. Thanks and good luck in the future
