Unexpected downtime

Post by randi »

The hackers who visited recently did more than just replace the forum index page. An httpd program was also found uploaded to the forum directory. Apparently, the attackers used the phpBB highlighting exploit to upload it and start their own webserver. It was eventually noticed when it became enough of a drain on the machine that hosts zdoom.org that the site was temporarily shut down so that clean up could take place.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you or someone you know is running a version of phpBB older than 2.0.11, I strongly urge you to upgrade as quickly as possible. I was too slow, and look what happened.

Depends on how far you want to go. You could say:
- Never connect to the internet
- Never have a site
- Never used phpBB

I have often chose not to do the last one.

Those goddamn nerdy little f*cks with scrawny little necks. Sometimes I'd like to just grab one of 'em by the neck and force their head through their monitor.

Some little @$$holes really enjoy messing up other people's stuff, and that's a damn shame. Use your f*cking knowledge to make better f*cking programs instead, dipsh*ts!!

Well okay, hackers put the site down for 2 days.....

BIG DEAL!!

Unless they deleted anything or changed something in some way then there's no need to make a fuss. I seriously(tm) don't see why you're all swearing and being stupid over such a small incodent. If it was for like 5 weeks or something then fine, i'd be annoyed too. But two days? Come on! :?

I wonder who the nerds are, the "hackers" or the ones here who totally freak out about this hack.

This is useless garbage. This isn't THAT big a deal because they didn't do anything when they hacked, but had they done something worse, then we'd ALL be freaking out. And that's just the point, cutty. No one wants to take chances. And besides, it's annoying just to have the knowledge alone of the fact that your site is vulnerable. Even if noone ever does anything about it. Of course I guess people DO seem to make too big a deal and go too far. I quote: "...Blood shall be spillt!".... :o

Boris: Both, I think.

Hey. I am *very* sensitive about my ZDoom gaming. It is very dear to me, and it displeases me to see it abused is all.
