ZDoom is 2.4.0 years old now.

Post by randi »

ZDoom version 2.4.0 has been released. Visit the downloads page to get it. If you were observant and already downloaded it when you noticed the downloads page was updated yesterday, you might want to do so again, since it has been updated with newer zdoom.pk3 that fixes one minor problem with Heretic's weredragon.

More details later.

That, combined with the 2.4.1 tag...
Corollaries of software development:
748. Version numbers should rise strictly monotonically.
749. Every bugfix, how small it may be, should lead to a bump (and see 748).

I expect a quick update. There were 2 semi-serious bugs I fixed today, one of which rendered moving cameras inoperable on many maps.

 Awesome. The improved gamepad config is welcome but I still wish there was turning acceleration like on all console fps games.

And it seems like some of the slider bars only slide a few milimeters :? like the maximum amount is way on the left

but this is good :foxnews: keep it up

I'm sure that Randy wants to make sure that a new revision is stable given that the new SBARINFO code is now part of the main trunk and would, presumably, be part of a release.

So, if it helps, over the last 2 days, I've had a bit of time on my hands and played 28 Zdoom specific maps from idgames, four non Zdoom specific maps, some of my own maps, all of the original Doom, and the first 10 levels of Doom2. None of the maps in question caused me any obvious problems. Some of the projects I played do have SBARINFO lumps, the most extensive of which was probably WW-Diaz. In addition, I have played a few levels of Strife, Heretic (plus a PWAD) and Hexen. Again, no obvious problems noted. I've also done quite a bit of editing and been popping between Zdoom and DeePsea (and other tools). I have not experienced any problems with this either. This has all been done with either the latest SVN Zdoom or GZdoom revision.

OK, obviously most of my playing has been at my preferred settings and I haven't been dipping in and out of options or whatever too often but at least I have clocked up a good few stable hours on the SVN revisions without and problems arising.

Actually, it wouldn't. Randy made a 2.4.1 branch and most of the revisions made to the trunk have not been ported to the branch. Here's the full changelog for that branch:
