Do you have Timidity installed? What if you play with -nomusic, does the last thread still hang? What's its status in "ps -el"?

What's its status in "ps -el"?

Hmm... what happens if you run the command timidty from the command line? Timidity's process shouldn't hang, and it doesn't seem to be crashing.

i installed timidity to a nonstandard path, so nothing happens. also, it seems to be misconfigured and not working.

1. how do i configure and test it?
2. how do i plug it into zdoom?

To test it, you just run it. To allow zdoom to use it, just make sure the executable is in your path, or at least you set the timidity_exe var to the full path.

You do, however, need a patchset to use. If you need one, I can give you a good one (20MB).

Hmm.. I dunno. Do you get any non-soundeffect sounds? If not, make sure the volume sliders in the options menu are turned up.

Sounds like a pretty serious Linux bug.

It doesn't matter on WIndoze because it's case insensitive.
