How to get your old account reactivated

We sure do have a lot of rules and guidelines threads - find them all here, and please make sure you've read them! Also, community-wide announcements (that aren't major ZDoom News) go here as well.

How to get your old account reactivated

Post by Caligari87 »

Discord - This might be the easiest way to resolve this situation for some people, but this is not the required method. If you don't want to wait around to see if we will reactivate your account, you may instead contact us on Discord and look in the channel "#contact-moderators" whilst joined to our server.

If not using Discord -

It may take between an hour to a full week to get your account reactivated. The process is manual. Sorry if it takes a while - the sooner you put your request in, the better.

Also - be sure to check your spam folder!

Remember, if you don't provide us with info, we can't reactivate your account.
As part of security measures, if the last time you logged in was prior to 2022/04/27, your account has been marked inactive and therefore unable to log in.

If your account had 0 posts at that time, then it was deleted; please register again.

If you need assistance recovering your account, please let us know by leaving a detailed message here. You must be logged out to use this link.

When asking to recover your account, please, for verification purposes, let us know either what email you had on the account at the time, or what ISP+Location you would have logged in from. This is so we can cross-reference with our records to make sure that you are really you. Obviously, we need the account name, too, or we won't know who to reactivate!

Additionally, sometimes you may lose access to your old email. If you provide us with your CURRENT email address, we will update it.

Do not tell us what topics you've created. This is publicly available information and cannot be used to verify you as the original account owner.

Do not post your password! - This is not necessary for recovering your account, not to mention HUGELY insecure! We don't want it, and will never ask for it.

Reminder - if you don't let us know your account name, we can't verify you.

If nothing happens when you request a reactivation, chances are you did not follow the instructions here, or you supplied incorrect information.

Please remember to check your spam folders! Some email providers, especially Microsoft/Hotmail/Outlook/Live think that ZDoom forum messages are spam because they are automated. Please remember to check your spam folder just in case, and whitelist any messages from the forum if you want to see them in the future.

As a note, all inactive accounts that have a) never logged in, and b) have never had any posts, but registered prior to 01 July 2018 have been pruned. This is done because a lot of spam bot accounts tend to clog up the database unnecessarily and the accounts are doing absolutely nothing useful.

If your account was deleted by this prune, feel free to remake it.

Right now we have a couple people trying to get their accounts reactivated by either requesting only by their account name, or only by their account email.

If you do not provide information to verify your account - we will not activate your account. The old accounts were a gold mine for hijackers back in the day - so we're feeling a bit protective of the ones that are there. If you want your account back - we want you to have it too - and we have made the steps required to do so very easy... but you cannot ignore them.

Ultimately - what we really want is to make sure that YOU are the only person who is actually getting your old account back. That's why we're doing it this way.

If your account is otherwise active, but you fail to log in, you may eventually get locked out completely by the system. This is to protect against brute-forcing of accounts. The only thing you can do is wait out your session token (usually lasts a few hours). We cannot help with that on the forum, here, sorry.

If you're feeling a bit impatient, you can contact us in Discord. Be ready to prove that you are who you are, because we will ask you many questions about it to ensure that you are the only person who is trying to access your own account.

Update:
It may take between an hour to a full week to get your account reactivated. The process is manual and with how popular this thing has unfortunately become, it's putting way too much work and burden on our admin team and we are finding it more and more difficult to keep up with all the requests coming in, with other things we have going on in our lives. Sorry if it takes a while - the sooner you put your request in, the better. Closing this off completely may soon become a possibility.

Update Jan-26 - since we've successfully activated multiple accounts whose emails were on Microsoft services, the below notice may no longer apply.
