Re: WidePix v1.3 [complete/final] - GZDoom 4.7.1

That this has been added to the official release of the source port and that no one is complaining speaks for the quality more than anything else.

I am not complaining either. They look all so authentic. Thank you for the magnificent work!

Re: GZDoom 4.7.1 released

Thanks for the release!

Adding to the first post that this will be the last release for 32 bit systems might be helpful to those who have not read the survey thread.

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

Make of Anandtech's review what you will but it is hard to be disappointed by the M1 Max's performance: https://www.anandtech.com/show/17024/apple-m1-max-performance-review It does not get more industry standard with regard to CPU benchmarks than the SPEC ones and in the floating point variant it is ...

I wish you well too, Rachel!

If it felt like I was unmoved by what you said, it is just because I am a lifeless Apple chat bot. Once benchmarks etc. are out you are all welcome to tell me you were right all along.

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

I am annoyed because you resurrected an old bug report thread just to tell us about Apple's newest laptops. And then I do knee-jerk to people praising corporations, I admit that. I really should just ignore it but hey I am who I am. :) I resurrected the tread to tell Rachel about how Apple scaled ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

How am I supposed to find anything wrong on graphs that mention no actual products or competitors and has no actual units on the graphs. From the fine print. The graphs in the Anandtech article (https://www.anandtech.com/show/17019/apple-announced-m1-pro-m1-max-giant-new-socs-with-allout ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

Rachel, your concerns are probably all valid but I feel that they are political in nature and - as you said yourself - Apple is doing what every corporation does (well probably every IT megacorp.). If you can find a fair trade notebook with a repairabiity score of 10/10 go for it. So vote with your ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

I do not care if you call me an Apple fan because I (mostly) am. You can also call me a fan boy but then back it up. When I wrote that Apple understate the performance of their products I did not mean that they do not hype them but that the relative performance metrics they provide are rather ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

The CPU will or will not throttle. That remains to be seen. I compared to the geekbench score for now Okay now you just went into full Mac fanboy mode, sorry to say. Of course it will throttle. And geekbench is well known for not running long enough to get CPUs out of the speed boost stage where ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

- a CPU with the performance of a AMD Ryzen 9 3900X or an Intel Core i9-11900K - a GPU ca. as fast as a desktop NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (M1 Pro) or a desktop NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 / mobile RTX 3080 (M1 Max) No, the CPU doesn't have the performance of those desktop CPUs. The laptop thermally ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

We are talking about a notebook that does not go to a lower perfomance mode when unplugged (!) with - a 120hz 16" Mini LED display - a CPU with the performance of a AMD Ryzen 9 3900X or an Intel Core i9-11900K - a GPU ca. as fast as a desktop NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (M1 Pro) or a desktop NVIDIA ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

The M1 Max is nicely balanced for people working in media production etc. with 64GB of unified memory and ProRes HW encoders/decoders being the wet dream of everyone editing 8K footage or 4K footage with many adjustments. The mini LED display with a sustain max brightness of 1000 nits does not hurt ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

Well It is a scaled up M1. ST performance will be the same and MT performance will be ca. 1,7x higher due to the 8/2 instead of 4/4 design (performance cores / efficiency cores). Early Geekbench cores seem to confirm this and indicate that it is as fast as the older 12 Core Intel CPU in the Mac Pro ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

I'll wait untilI see real numbers. Same for Intel's Alder Lake. It has frequently happened that much in these presentations turned out to be bullshit after all. Apple rather tends to understate than overstate the performance of their products but I understand what you mean. I do remenber however ...

Re: [g4.6pre-65-g6701cd284] Freezes on Apple Silicon (M1 SoC

Adding more cores is nice and all but core speed is still ARM's weakest point, in my opinion. But the M1 surprised many of us - including me - so we'll see how that pans out. This is how, Rachel: https://www.anandtech.com/show/17019/apple-announced-m1-pro-m1-max-giant-new-socs-with-allout ...
