Re: Yet another retro source port?
Those mods I'm referring to are ZDoom mods (for the older versions), though.

Re: Yet another retro source port?
I'm probably not really the same type of vanillist that's being called out in this thread but I'll throw in my 2 cents, I never really gave much of a damn about demos or speedrunning, and have kind of ping-ponged back and forth between here and Doomworld, but what put me off of ZDoom and into target...

Community-use/non-ripped MIDI in Heretic/Hexen/fantasy style
Pretty much as the title implies. If there are some MIDI resources out there that would sound good in a fantasy setting and aren't ripped from other games, that are available to be used in new WADs (ideally stuff that community members have composed for such use), I'd love to know of them. The commu...

Re: Corridor 7 Animations
Corridor 7 used a technique called color cycling; rather than using multiple images for some of the animated effects, it updated the color table in the palette to create an impression of flowing/pulsing elements. To turn these into something ZDoom-friendly you would have to know which segments of th...

Re: Resource Bookmarks
While I don't come this way too often any more I couldn't not pass this one on, this person's DA gallery is a treasure trove of high-res textures offered on CC-BY terms (just give credit, basically). I think a lot of them could look great in a high-res mod or as a basis to make more Doom-scaled text...

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Slapped a few more odds and ends together, also quickly finished a mini gun I slapped together 2 or 3 days ago with an extra option or two. https://imgur.com/zF9zuhR Cool stuff as usual. I might like to include some of those spiderwebby textures in my Heretic/Hexen WADs if I may (with credit of cou...

You might want to take a look at this series (there's 5 videos in all) of someone who had a similar problem, might help you in dealing with it if it turns out to be a bullshit claim.

What does "P_VerifyBlockmap: open blocklist" mean?
I picked up an old Heretic level from one of those many compilation CDs that was causing the vanilla engine to lock up on level load, and decided to give it a try on ZDoom to see if it could bypass whatever problem was occurring and run the map. It does, but the console gives a message "P_Verif...

Re: At what point is a game an asset flip?
I think if it's being sold for money, then the majority of the assets had better be original. Though I suppose there's some leeway since Doom et al. used stock sound effect CDs and the occasional "borrowed" bit like the gargoyle textures. Even for free mods throwing together a bunch of rip...

Good to see you're still around, Neoworm. Personally I'd like to see both versions of the cleric arms, more options are good.

Re: Most Advanced DOS Source Port?
If i'm not wrong you developed a reverse engineered version of Chasm... I gave up at the very beginning :( Doing this by hand is too long and boring process. Automated tools for 16-bit protected mode DOS binaries are almost non existent. Writing a decompiler for this long dead platform is completel...

Re: Favorite Janky Workaronds?
I've done the boards-across-bricks shelving solution a fair number of times. I use a USB webcam as a microphone whenever I'm in need of audio recording, because it's still somehow a better mic than the cheap actual mic I bought. I've also done the earbuds-plugged-into-mic-jack trick, which works but...

Re: STRAFE: The Bleeding Edge Game set for '96 Release
Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long age. Did the commercialization of it turn out any good, then? I think the last I played it was when it was still a freeware game.wildweasel wrote:Crimsonland

Re: Lost Souls: Translucent, why?
Sadly, other source ports such as PrBoom+ and what not tends to have translucency locked in with world translucency (like a translucent SHAWN texture representing glass). Turn one off, you lose the other. Makes sense though. But hate it. Hate. Me too. It gets even worse for Heretic/Hexen (and proba...
