I've found I receive "Untouchable" bonuses in levels even if I've clearly been hit. Like, had a beastie stand in front of me and melee non-stop while I reload. When this happens, it's my Armor Chunks or Suits that are taking the damage, and it never hits my health bar, but is this a bug or a feature?
