Good news: I may have a solution for you.

I recently got the same error on my main PC (windows 10, heaps of RAM, heaps of space etc) after running it fine on my Win10 laptop for ages. I tried ZDoom, I tried GZDoom, I tried a heap of commands... it just wouldn't run, always saying it failed to allocate X bytes.

I tried fresh downloads and it also wouldn't work. THEN:

I copied the working ZDoom folder off my laptop onto my main PC and suddenly it worked. Whatever the error is, it's something to do with the first time ZDoom runs and generates a bunch of files. Once those files are generated (ie the folder copied from the other computer which had them in it) it runs fine with no "failed to allocate X bytes" error.

Try that out - find another computer it runs on then transfer the files after launching ZDoom successfully once.

That's relative, every win32 software launch over ms-dos, that's why every single win32/64 program shows the message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." because dos start running the first bytes of code, that lets you see that message and then exit.
This is also silly, like if people could think that ms-dos could run a 64bits software from 2015

This is the kind of report I truly love.

Some anonymous person comes along, posts something entirely insufficient and never reports back.
Sorry, but bugs won't magically fix themselces!

To run ZDoom or GZDoom you do not need DosBox, see http://zdoom.org/wiki/Installation_and_ ... n_of_ZDoom

The problem is this isn't enough information for us to diagnose the problem. We can see the program failed to do a standard allocation, but only after the initial gameinfo scan, so something specific to you is causing the problem.
What build of ZDoom are you running (make sure it's the latest) and what IWADs are you attempting to run?

Hello, I am new to Doom, Doom II, and am using DosBox to emulate the game. However, lately I have been following a steam forum post (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =260701347) and am very confused as to what I am doing wrong. Every time I open ZDoom, it gives me this error message.

OS: Windows 7 (NT 6.1) Build 7601
Service Pack 1
M_LoadDefaults: Load system defaults.
Gameinfo scan took 0 ms

Execution could not continue.

Failed to allocate -1 bytes from process heap.
