I found a solution. Add CHEX2.WAD together with the normal chex.wad in the GZDoom folder. Open GZDoom and select the normal chex.wad then on options, type "-file CHEX2.WAD".

Technically speaking, the levels in Chex 3 are much better. They were completely remastered, and I dare say it needed it. The original maps in chex2.wad were rather poor.

No. Chex2.wad requires a few minor actor changes as well, making it problematic. And since the levels are part of chex3.wad, I do not consider this important enough.
