Always good to know people are rediscovering these old gems even to this day... :D

I think she should have -loadgame save1 as well.

Of course it can. We yelled at someone the other day because he didn't know.
100% fixed the problem!

MANY thanks!

What's amazing to me about all of this is that with some many demo games on Steam, with awesome features, running around in the Heretic world is still more fun that most of them. Last weekend Steam was selling various id packs for 75% off. I got the Heretic/Hexen/Hexen2 pack for a whopping $2.50 for each of us. I didn't spend the $9.99 for the Doom/Quake packs as well because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy playing these older games with low-res graphics.

Stupid, stupid mistake...

It has probably been 15-18 years since I last played Heretic, and it is still a blast!

Again, TY for the assist!

From my experience, when the host saves the game, it saves a file to both ends. Both players need to make sure they are loading the correct save (it helps if they both have the same filename on both ends). It will claim that it is out of sync on the start of the game, but is not always telling the truth.

ZDoom can load save files in multiplayer? Thats news to me.

You are 100% sure you are using all of the same files? Make sure nothing is being autoloaded.

I've moved this thread to Networking, as that seems like a more appropriate place for it.

Heretic co-op play loads savegame out of sync

by crosgrove » Sat Aug 11, 2012 8:52 am

Hi all!

Am playing Zdoom with Heretic. My machine is the host, wife's machine is the guest. My bat file to start it up is:

zdoom -host 2 -skill 2 -loadgame save1

Hers to join is:

zdoom -join 192.168.06

We play a while, and I save the game, naming is save1. We exit and alter come back. I modify my bat file to start the host so it is:

zdoom -host 2 -skill 2 -loadgame save1

Hers to join is (still):

zdoom -join 192.168.06

I load my savegame fine. Hers machine loads a *new* game with her and I in our respective default settings, with the generic mobs for a new game where they should be, and we both get an "out of sync" message. What should we be doing differently?

Best,
DMC
