It's simple. Just imagine a water drop falling into a basin -- the water will "back up" into the air. Same for a zombie which is lying on the ground and you're dropping a blood drop on his wound. Same for someone standing upright.
Try it: go out into da hood, and shoot someone right in the face. Do you get wet, or the wall behind him? (Answer: both)
Perfectly phyiscally reasonable. However, this turned up a small bug: non-railgun shots don't splat [ a little ] to the front. Or in an example: shooting the doom player in a 64x64 box should mark all four walls with blood splats, the one behind him the most. Crushing a player should mark all four walls equally, and, once we have floor/ceiling splats, these too.
