Here is potential solution for this. However, I'm not 100% sure that we don't need to keep these invisible decals. Probably, we should take them into account instead, like "true" decals.

You will need the attached file to reproduce this

1) Be sure your cl_maxdecals is at some non-0 value.
2) Shoot the green door in front of you with any hitscan weapon (pistol is fine) a few times (1 shot isn't enough)
3) Shoot the brown walls. Decals will appear as normal.
4) Type cl_maxdecals 0

The wall decals will not disappear. This ONLY happens when you shot the green (model-based) doors first. If you DON'T shoot the doors, cl_maxdecals will behave normally.
