It'd be best of course, to find out what goes wrong here. The code went through a few iterations by different people so something may have gotten broken at various stages.

FFFFFE is even better. You only lose one "unit" of light, and it's on the blue channel which is the darkest anyway. Likewise, if you want something as dark as possible without being 000000, use 000001.

Where do I even keep finding these?

So, if you set the "Doom 64 style" floor/ceiling colors, they will only show up if you also set the sector color (Pro tip: Use FEFEFE)... Don't have a WAD handy this time round, tho.
At one point, I even got the colors to leak into other sectors like a slimetrail, but I can't reproduce that at the moment.

Tested on ye' olde 3.0.1
