For those who don't know, the stats feature collects your game time and level completion stats across all your playthroughs with it enabled, and stores them in a file. So if you're curious, you can know how many demons you've killed since you started using this, or how many secrets you've found, etc.
I don't think even the Doom Launcher application uses that, it uses the autosaves to read completion data, hence why MAP30's don't have data saved normally.

In any case, add me to the "what's this?" camp.

I'm one of many people who can ask "what the hell is that?"
Neat feature I guess but heavily obscure...
An idea though. Should we create a thread and post our results with that feature used in like...the IWADs for a complete playthrough, if anyone is up to it?

FWIW, I implemented tracking for a bunch of game stats as a ZScript mod: https://jp.itch.io/doom-runtracker

This feature is news to me too. So, I definitely have not used it.

Precisely that. What has bothered me is that it stores this stuff in a freeform text file making it hard to analyze, so I rewrote it using SQLite, because I had to familiarize myself with that for something else and thought I'd better apply it to something that's more fun first, trying out some wrappers around its awful straight C API.
Obviously this also means that the launcher front end using this will have to be changed, because it's no longer a text file (but can be exported to one, of course, albeit in a different format with more information.)

Add me to the "what's that?" pile. I mean, I KIND of know what the feature is, I've seen some users post about it but they're very rare. I personally don't really track my personal stats as I'm just playing recreationally/for fun.

I believe it's used by the Doom Launcher frontend.

No.

What is this statistics feature anyway?

Once in a while, so, rarely.

Does anybody use GZDoom's statistics feature?

The reason why I am asking is that I recently reworked this to use a real database as storage to allow storing a bit more information that would be hard to track by the old way.

This new feature is almost ready, but what I'd like to avoid is creating problems - the format is not compatible with the old one and would mean that old and new data are no longer in the same files.
