You just need to drag and drop sigil.wad AFAIK. Also it's supported as an iwad in LZDoom.
Should i add support for it to RUDE? I must confess i didn't like it (i've sinned :P ).

Thank you Rachael for restoring my confidence that the box might eventually arrive. Today I finally received it.

Thank you for your curiosity. About 26 years ago I preordered the game DOOM, with the expectation that I would be among the first to get the full game. As it turned out, my copy did not arrive until weeks after other folks were able to pick up the game at stores. The folks at id software blamed third parties for the screw up. Just like today, the drooling fan boys back then were falling all over themselves defending id's reputation from those who would criticize them. I'm still sort of chafed about that situation. So that's definitely a part of WTF is with me. I don't know about anyone else.

Did anyone else here order the beast box back in December? I still have not received mine.

What may be a breeze for one person may be a massive pain in the ass for someone else. People develop different skill sets to tackle problems and they develop them at different rates. People even have skill ceilings -temporary and permanent - that keep them from developing further. Not a fault on anyone in that regard, mind you. We all have limitations. Some people eventually are able to overcome them while others can't, no matter if we're talking about one's personal abilities in playing Doom or anything else.

Personally - and as someone who did play this on UV as a first playthrough as well - I thought the challenge/difficulty in Sigil was mostly in the "hard but fair" category aside from the things I mentioned in my last post that I thought were bullshit. However, I can see why there are people who say it is very hard to the point of being punishing. Like Gez pointed out, Romero did things in Sigil that I think are definitely outside of the usual conventions the community expects from a lot of Doom maps. People going into Sigil expecting more of the same mapping/design conventions from previous Ultimate Doom episodes are going to get and did get roflstomped.

After being disappointing with E1M8b, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with SIGIL. I thought it was pretty good! Nice visuals, neat level ideas, cool combat. Good use of the Doom 1 monsters too, Romero really got a lot of mileage out of its limited bestiary. It also does a good job of being a natural progression of "Thy Flesh Consumed", IMO.

That being said, I'm not sure this deserves a Cacoward. It will 100% win one anyway, the same way E1M8b did despite being not great IMO, but I think it's quite inferior to No Rest for the Living. IMO that release really did deserve a Cacoward, that WAD really is excellent.

Glad I never had any issues with the Baphomet eyes personally, but they are certainly something that should be fixed. Some of the eyes are kind of hard to spot though, and progression on some of the maps is a bit weird, though generally okay IMO. Some Baron placement is "doors with health", and shotgunning them can be extremely tedious. Some of the cyberdemons are placed in such a way that they are extremely hard to kill if going for UV-Max. I'm not even sure there is enough ammo on E5M9 to max it.

Been meaning to post my thoughts on Sigil since I played through it.

I liked it. Granted, half of the episode wasn't my personal cup of tea when it comes to Doom (I wasn't a fan of the overabundance of hurt floors, the level with the crusher maze can fuck right off, and some of the combat encounters feel like beating them is less reliant on player ability and more reliant on luck) but I still like it for what it is and what I expected, which for me was "Thy Flesh Consumed 2: Consume Harder/More". UV definitely wasn't meant for most first time players, I think. The enemy encounters and item placement in UV seem to operate on the assumption that the player has played Sigil on lower difficulties first and has knowledge of the map layouts prior to jumping into UV.

Hopefully Romero will have time to make more episodes for Doom/2 in the future as I'd like to see what else he has in mind, if anything. If he doesn't though then I feel like this was a pretty nice hoorah from him.

Life is change; stasis is death. It's good when people innovate, and it's even better when this innovation comes from someone that the purists can't complain about. I'm pretty sure that if the new conventions Romero created for Sigil (progression by shooting evil eyes; completion by reaching the marble image of Baphomet) had been used by some random mapper, everybody would have yelled at him or her because it breaks expectations for classic content.

I think that's what people were looking for though. I know I was, and these maps are different for sure.

I did another play through today, this time on the lowest skill level, and got all the way to the end.

In this play through, I also get to the secret level. Someone helped me get there, and if you're curious to know it starts at 42:40 in the vod. A little fair warning, though: Spoilers!

Independently of whether the maps themselves are someone's cup of tea, I'm glad Romero went back to making maps and they ain't anything like the ones he did nearly 26 years ago.
