News from 13 October 2001

zdoom.notgod.com is fast again. You can thank Brian Nelson for that. He runs this server out of his own pocket and was generous enough to start hosting ZDoom just a few months after I started work on it. So even if you don't care about the speedup, he still deserves thanks for hosting me.

To celebrate, here is a special version of TiMidity++ designed to work with the Windows version of ZDoom. I said I would release this earlier on the messageboard but have only now gotten around to it. I will try and find my modified source code for it later. Unfortunately, as my monitor is currently broken (burning smells are not a good thing coming from your monitor), the only way I can get at the files on my computer is over a network connection. I think the source is on my NTFS partition, but I have my computer running under Windows 98 right now, so I cannot reach it.

That brings up my other news. Since my monitor is broken, I am trying to decide whether I want to spend my money on a nice big 21" monitor or if 19" is big enough. While I try to decide, I have copied the ZDoom files onto my recently acquired notebook, so I can continue to work on it, but it's just not the same as working with a desktop system.

My notebook has Windows ME on it, and I cannot figure out how to use the Dvorak layout in the MS-DOS windows. Help! My productivity is seriously hampered whenever I have to try and use the Qwerty layout at the command line when I'm so used to using Dvorak everywhere else.
