- Fixed crash when saving games with more than 1024 objects.
- Fixed crash when loading a game without starting a new one first.
- Reduced the size and frequency of pregame network packets, under the assumption that problems people were having using 1.18 on the Internet are a result of limited modem bandwidth.
I have received a few requests about the status of a DOS version of ZDoom 1.18. I already covered this in a recent update:
There is no DOS support in 1.18 right now, because the latest version of OpenPTC for DOS only supports text mode and fake mode graphics, neither of which is very appropriate for playing DOOM.
The readme included with the source code expands upon this somewhat:
I don't care enough about DOS to hook the older version of PTC in with the new code. If someone else wants to mess with it and get it to work, be my guest.
On the other hand, I just discovered that PTC 2.0 for DOS really is still available, so I might try doing a DOS port of 1.18 after all. I am not looking forward to it. IMHO, programming for DOS sucks. I know others will disagree with me on this, but since I'm the one who would be doing it, my opinion is the only one that matters.
I've also been mucking around with Linux lately, and am feeling more inclined to try my hand at a Linux version of ZDoom. Expect it before I do anything with DOS.
