News from 6 September 1999

Post by randi »

It's about a month late, but ZDoom 1.18 is finally done. Things
have changed from the 1.18 source code I released earlier, so the wait was worthwhile. (And you
should redownload the source if you grabbed it earlier.) These are:
  • Replaced the older Cajun 0.71 with <a href="http://www.doomworld.com/doombot/" target="_top">Cajun 0.97</a>.
  • Fixed handling of status bar faces with skins that provide them.
  • Added swimmable water.
  • Messages printed to the middle of the screen also print to the console.
  • Skill and other server cvars get saved in savegames again.
  • Added liquid texture warping.
  • Bad MAPINFO lumps generate error messages instead of hanging.
  • Realized that it's impossible to guarantee that all object pointers will be valid without some effort, so FArchive saves DObject objects as NULL objects now instead of aborting with an error.
  • Added the ACS internal functions localambientsound, activatorsound, and setlinemonsterblocking.
  • Added a thing that does nothing but count toward the number of secrets.
  • Added a fly mode.
  • Finally implemented the +moveup and +movedown commands.
There is no DOS support in 1.18 right now, because the latest version of OpenPTC for DOS only supports text mode and fake mode graphics, neither of which is very appropriate for playing DOOM.

Additionally, the editing reference has been updated to reflect the new features of 1.18 (flat warping, scaling, alignment, rotation, and panning and the new ACS internal functions mentioned above). ACC 1.13 is needed to use any of the new internal functions.

ZETH has been upgraded to version 4.04. This is exactly the same as 4.03 except that it contains an updated configuration file for use with ZDoom 1.18.

All of these can be found from the downloads page. The editing reference is also available for online viewing.
