REALLY stupid Zdoom Question.

Post by Xaser »

Ok... Ready for a stupid question? Here goes:

Where did the name "Zdoom" come from? The port could of been called anything from the very start, and it was named Zdoom. Why? Just Curious. It's a very good name, but once I get a question in my head, i just HAVE to ask it somewhere, and since this is the Zdoom forum, why not ask here? :) :) :)

This is just a guess.

Z being the last letter of the alphabet, ZDoom being the last Doom port you'll ever need.

It's a mystery...

P.S: If you REALLY wanna get a discussion going... ask people how they pronounce it.

Zeeeeeedoom, and when you're in a hurry zjeooom. Ok, the noise I'm making is rather difficult to spell phonetically. Z and the the 'je' sound from french followed by ooom. :? :?

1) Doomworld had a poll (back when they had polls) asking how it is said; I recall "Z" won over "Zed".
2) My guess is that this wonderful port, among other things, added a third dimension upward (height checking, bridge things, fake 2 story structures, etc.), so it could be interpreted that way, if you wish.

To a Canadian, you just said:

"I recall "Zed" won over "Zed", eh."

Heh. Good idea! I agree about the part that it's the last port I ever need. When I have Zdoom handy, I need no other port to survive. Zdoom rules!

There's another good answer. Both of those explanations make perfect sense.

Same here.

Why the heck would someone name a port after themself? If I didn't already know what it was, the name Jdoom wouldn't sound so interesting.

Ok, so do I win the award for having the most quotes in a single post?
