Chaingun accuracy?

Post by Eatme »

Erm I noticed something that I think is maybe a bug with the chaingun, but if it isn't then sorry I wasted any of your time. Just that when you hold the fire button down the chaingun fires rapidly and in a random positions near where you are aiming, but if you just click the fire button repeatedly and actually don't hold it down, it fires exactly where you want it to and the accuracy is perfect so also you can kill things quicker with it.

Again, sorry if this is meant in the game and if I've wasted anyone's time.

This has been posted at least five times now. It is not a bug. It is an intended feature.

That's a matter of opinion. I personally think it's stupid as id obviously didn't forsee that people would abuse their code but rapidly clicking the button. If the chaingun had a spin-down time or something, it'd be more appropriate as there'd be a penalty. As it is, it's just dumb.

I agree, just makes it seem less real, makes you wonder if it really was an intentional feature.

That depends. In a real world situation it's stupid but this is Doom and there have been other issues that have been exploited as well. That's the way the game behaved since 1993 so DON'T CHANGE IT!!!!!

I tend to think of it as making an extra special effort to control the chaingun.

It should stay as is, but be user-definable for new weapons.

Don't take my chaingun-sniper rifle away plz! :(

EDIT: User defined sounds good, however.

This is exactly why I want it gone. :P

At the very least, there should be a server-side setting to disable this behavior, because it makes the chaingun a sniper rifle in DM games. Currently the only way to fix it is to disable FOV changes, and if you're using a railgun and WANT players to be able to snipe with it, there's no happy medium.

My suggestion (once again): Change it and add a (server-side) compatibility/dmflag for the original behavior.

But activate this flag only in DM! Believe me, way too many players will complain if this behavior is altered. (I am using it all the time when shooting far away enemies.)

No. It's regular behavior of the game! That's not cheating. Increasing the amount of precise bullets would be cheating! :P

If you zoom in while you're doing it, then you're *definately* cheating, as zooming wasn't something in Doom originally.

And I *still* think it's cheap to exploit an aspect of the game like this. It's cheap in single player as well as deathmatch. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. So NYAH!
