Is Hell from Doom a virus or rewriting reality?
If you played the original Doom especially KDIZD, have you ever noticed that that Hell and Demons when they took over the Phobos and Deimos base they seem to have hell slowly taking over it as if it's rewriting reality? Especially for example what if Deimos was once a planet/moon but got turned into a floating Island by Hell meanwhile "Outer Space" is also getting rewritten as a large landscape of Hell?
Well one of my main bases of these theories is from various White Wolf WoD games called "Mage: the Ascension" which is a game about people who can shape reality entirely even by rewriting their perceptions of Outer Space is like (which for example in the Book of Worlds describes a Dreamspeaker viewing space as a large desert with portals which a lone Void Engineer catches off guard seeing someone surviving without a space suit and not following their view of space as a airless void.

Hell is basically whatever the writer/level designer wants it to be.

Heh, people still pay attention to White Wolf and the World of Darkness? I thought their games became passée about 10 years ago.
In answer to the question, your theory has some merit but then so does Kinsie's answer.

Let's see what Doom II has to say on the topic:
YOU HAVE ENTERED DEEPLY INTO THE INFESTED
STARPORT. BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG. THE
MONSTERS HAVE BROUGHT THEIR OWN REALITY
WITH THEM, AND THE STARPORT'S TECHNOLOGY
IS BEING SUBVERTED BY THEIR PRESENCE.

But, you have to remember how little the DOOM community cares about the original's story. So everyone has different theories, some with sentient demons and zombies actually being undead instead of possessed and living.

"If you played the original Doom especially KDIZD, have you ever noticed--" Stop right there, Nightmare Doom. since when is KDiZD a part of the original Doom
Re: Is Hell from Doom a virus or rewriting reality?
It's certainly based on original Doom, and extends some ideas that it has.

That doesn't make it official.printz wrote:It's certainly based on original Doom, and extends some ideas that it has.

I suppose ND meant KDITD and typing KDIZD instead is just a typo.
Re: Is Hell from Doom a virus or rewriting reality?
If Hell from Doom is a virus, then it's the Doom movie, so I opt for the other choice.
My favourite rendition of 'reality rewriting' is that of vegetal growth on walls (you know the textures...). However, people prefer the marble/wood/skin room redecoration effect, as in KDiZD level 8... I may be wrong here, but vines seem to be considered natural and human-controlled, in Doom maps. But they look rather wild and invasive to me...

Doom has a very loose storyline, each fan can really just pick and choose what he/she WANTS the storyline to be and just go with it. I think that's what iD was going for when they made the game.

Yeah, what I said was that I'd like to see some demonic vegetation in Doom. Perhaps poisonous, or touch-sensitive green objects. Sure there's that hell rose or how it's called, but it's somewhat sentient..

What about all those thorny vines everywhere?
Re: Is Hell from Doom a virus or rewriting reality?
You mean MIDVINE (which I was referring to) or those brown thorn sprites? Well, those aren't a bad start; one can give a building a soil-like FLAT10 or FLOOR7_1 ground and put trees everywhere, though still, that sounds more like "abandoned" than "attacked".
