Make WAD released!

Post by J-Dub »

I got ahold of a ridiculously in-depth book on C++, I've been playing around in VC++, and I'm going to make another .WAD tool! This will be a command line program which allows files to be drap/dropped on it to make a .WAD. So far, I have it merging raw data and I just need to make it write the header and directory.

Edit: Make WAD released! Check my website!

That was really rude, man. Yeesh. If anything, it's a cool idea, considering there's so many XWE haters out there. :P

I was planning on writing something similar for Linux that dealt with PK3 files, so watch for that eventually.

@asdf: It's known to corrupt files and stuff, though I've never experienced it myself.

Ark!

I've never had any corruption using XWE. Also XWE makes a backup of the wad automatically every time it is "saved" so it's more reliable IMO.

XWE bashing is so timeline.

Yeah and that costs quite some time on big WADs :-(

True, but Csabo is working on fixing that right now, and it seems to be going well. The backups work well, but indeed do take up a lot of space if the wad gets large. As far as I can see, there's only an option to limit the backup to one.

I've never had enough problems with XWE to switch to something else. The program has evolved quite a bit in the past while.

Doesn't mean that nobody else should try and make something to do things xwe doesn't, or compete.

I can't rip on XWE since zWad isn't really any better. I wouldn't be surprised if I overlooked some miniscule detail that could somehow result in a corrupted WAD.

ATM this is not going to be a GUI but who knows what I might do with it later on... zWad was originally only gonna have an export lump feature and now it does a bunch of stuff.
