It's My First Map and It's a Big 'Un (UPDATE: Screenshots!)

Post by Toxie Rocks »

This is my first completed Doom map and my entry for the Doomworld Mega Project 2014*. It's titled The Fantastic Love Adventure of Lt. Feel Good and it's what I call a kitchen sink level because it includes everything but the kitchen sink. I tried using every trick ZDoom has to offer. Jumping and crouching aren't just allowed, they are required to finish the level (don't worry, platforming is limited). Consider this a beta release, so let me know about any bugs you find. I'd really like your feedback as I've spent loads of time on this. You can download it here:

You'll also need to download ewm.wad from my friend and fellow mapper Obake. Find it here:

I've taken some screenshots:

Thanks. I'd like to include screenshots, but I can't figure out how to take one. Pressing the 'PrtScrn' button doesn't do it. Any suggestions?

Uh, it should save a copy of the screenshot into your ZDoom Folder.

Well, I got a screenshot during gameplay, unfortunately it looks like this:

I'll figure it out eventually. :? Perhaps I'll get by with a screenshot of the map in the 3D mode of Doombuilder. Help would be appreciated.

Tried it and according to the console it's taking screencaps which are put in the ZDoom folder, but when I exit the game and look through the folder, there's no pictures there. I've searched through the rest of my folders (and even my recycle bin) to no avail. Does it matter where the ZDoom folder is located in my computer? Is there some setting I need to change? Ugh :blergh:

Just a shot in the dark, but does it happen to be in a protected folder, like Program Files?

After sometime fiddling around with things, it appears you're exactly correct. I've moved ZDoom to a different folder and taking screenshots is now as easy as breathing. Thank you, sir.

usually when people release their first maps, they're large, ugly, mistextured, misaligned and downright strange. This on the other hand looks great for a first map! Good job!

Really good map.

Look like a many-many themes mix in one level.
I mean space-style, mad-style, nature-style and city-style.

In end of map we speed-run on many corners and its nice.
Also i like player's comments for one of many things.
I see good mapping and good usage of ZDoom feathures.

P.S. Can you make BIG city map? I like realism-style!

Thanks for the kind words. I should explain that this is my first completed map. There are others I've worked on and scrapped or are still in progress. Maybe I'll preview those on this board sometime.

I already have plans for the 2015 Mega Project that includes a big city, though I don't know how big it will be. I'm not sure I can stomach another map this size. At one point it reached the linedef limit (I removed some extraneous detail so I could fit in all the necessary architecture. Thanks for the feedback.
