I had to make a patch to replace ammo/weapons/etc., but yes. Everything dies really quickly but the enemies are more dangerous than I thought they'd be. Especially the Iron Lich, he's a right bastard that feels like he'd be right at home with the rest of the HD bestiary.

I too have done this with other iwads, albeit very briefly and with console commands for ammo or weapons. The problem is that regular monsters can't inflict bleeding, which is pretty central to the experience of being hideously destructed. Killing waves of acolytes was, however, way more fun than it had any right to be.

Eric_, you should really make a video on Hideous Heretic.

Little question, are resurrected marines supposed to constantly make zombie alert sounds?

If they've degenerated into undead form, yes. Their targeting constantly resets like the friendly players, to keep them from locking on to an inaccessible target.

I should do a Hideous Destructor-style mod for Heretic, just to have some decent momentum physics for the Wings of Wrath.

...it would probably play a lot like a 3-D Flappy Bird, come to think of it.

Might even earn the wings their name as a happy side effect. :V

Hm... what would it be called? Everyone, quick, go look for a song from the golden age of metal dealing with heresy and/or magic!

*Five seconds later.*

That was fast. "Synthetic Deities" seems like a nice lyric to turn into the title.

I find it amusing that for such an "old" (as in "been around for a while") mod, there is almost no footage of it on youtube.
All I could see around was a quick walkthrough from E1M1 to E1M3 and that Heretic one, all from Eric_, and some very outdated ones by Vaecrius. It'd be awesome to see someone going full HD (pun) against Doom1 or 2 or some classic megawads with the current release. I would watch it with gusto.
Maybe it's because while I do like the mod, I absolutely suck at playing it. So it'd be nice to see a more experienced player showcase it, displaying the progression from easy maps to hard maps and how to deal with things as they come. Anyone here is a bad enough dude for that task?

There's always been something cathartic about shooting the crappy Heretic enemies with guns. Heretic's arsenal isn't very good so anything else is better.

Most people aren't Bad Enough Dudes to survive long enough for any decent footage.

I could theoretically do some doom 2 someday.

Though a certain problem with video recording I have encountered is that my PC vemehently refuses to record any sound whatsoever.a friend taught me how to google.

Will do doom 2 HD gameplay soonish.

@HexaDoken: Looking forward to it.

@Twinkie: Synthetic Deities is probably a bit better and a good deal less offensive than than my idea, Arian Nations. :V
(But then, it does kind of imply an entirely new plot involving the Serpent Riders being not from beyond the firmament but actually the embodiment of human iniquities brought to life by a fundamentally corrupted church....????)

@Hetdegon: from what footage I've seen and people's descriptions ("yeah I suck horribly it took me like 3 tries to get past XXX [that I had no idea the author honestly thought was not even theoretically possible with this mod]") you're probably a lot better than you think. (Besides, I think we need more footage of people dying repeatedly to show just how hard the mod is!)

@HexaDoken: Looking forward to it, too!

@Vaecrius: Hmm, every time I try I don't end well, and never really tried recording live gameplay (in Linux), but could give it a try. I can't offer voice commentary even if I manage to get a decent video out, though, my accent is more hideously destructive than the mod.
And I forgot the basics. Well, at least it'll be quasy-blind if I succeed with recording!

EDIT: Welp, it turns out I *can* record video pretty decently, but then I tried right-clicking with that weapon and it crashed.

Played on latest git version of gzdoom.
EDIT2: Huh, got another crash pressing "zoom" with the rifleman's grenade rifle too. After a barrel attacked me...

You kinda shuffled the story around for HD a bit, too, so I'm not sure that would be too terrible in the grand scheme of things. Also, it'd be funny because people may see conversations talking about HD and SD and think we're talking about whether or not to invest in an HDTV over one in SD. :P
