Re: Samsara - 0.3 - I can't drive at .30, man.
Are you ready for blood?
Are you ready for GORE?!
Are you ready for \m/ METAL \m/?!?!
Now with 309481 more gallons of blood and intestines delivered straight to you in buckets made from skulls carried by handles made from spines! With corks in the eyes so that it doesn't leak out, probably!
YOUR NIPPLES WILL EXPLODE FROM THE METAL.
YOUR SAMSARA EXPERIENCE JUST GOT MORE \m/ BROOTAL \m/

This reminds me so much of Serious Sam 3's blood settings, it's brillant.

That's great! I tried Samsara with the Ketchup mod but I felt as though it didn't quite work out the way I would have hoped. This looks like more of a step in the right direction...TerminusEst13 wrote:YOUR SAMSARA EXPERIENCE JUST GOT MORE \m/ BROOTAL \m/
...however, that said I feel like I should clarify the requests from myself and I think many people regarding the compatibility with the Brutal Doom mod. It's not just about the level of gore, and that is why the ketchup mod doesn't quite work. It's also not just about the 'improved' weapons for Doomguy, though I feel they do help. It's so much more about the variation in deaths, the localised damage, the improved effects on explosions and the like. Using the Ketchup mod results in enemies exploding in a fountain of blood, or to make a finer point, all the enemies exploding in the same fountain of blood. In the latest version (v19) zombie enemies who have their legs blown off will occasionally crawl away and, left to live, will recover enough to take some potshots at you with a pistol before they die. Little touches like this change the game immensely, and while I know you're working towards creating a 'retro' experience I don't think extra touches like this really detract from that aim.
I really do love the concept behind Samsara, but I feel it benefits the multiplayer scene far greater than the single-player experience. Personally, I will probably move towards using character mods through brutal doom (if possible) as after playing for a while now I feel like I just can't go back to the 'simpler' feel of standard doom, even modified with new characters and increased blood.
Your 'brutal' effects are a VAST improvement over the Ketchup mod, let me make that clear, but given the choice playing Doom levels without the multitude of little touches provided by Brutal Doom is something I just can't do anymore. I may be speaking for myself alone on this one, but Doom without those tweaks just doesn't feel like Doom anymore. I hope for a not-too-distant future in which the work done on Samsara paves the way for a Quake II engine client running Brutal Samsara Mega Monster Mixer Edition with all the variety this mod promises given it's ultimate form. However I'm willing to accept that I might be alone on that front!
Good luck with the continuation of your project.

What.Doom without [Brutal Doom's] tweaks just doesn't feel like Doom anymore.

So that means...Fluffyudders wrote:...but Doom without those tweaks just doesn't feel like Doom anymore.

Yeah, pretty much alone there, buddy.Fluffyudders wrote:I may be speaking for myself alone on this one, but Doom without those tweaks just doesn't feel like Doom anymore.

But XY - Y =/= X is correct thoIMX wrote:So that means...Fluffyudders wrote:...but Doom without those tweaks just doesn't feel like Doom anymore.
XY - Y =/= X
Look at it this way
Y(X-1) =/= X

Although I should mention that upon further inspection IMX's statement is mostly true in that "XY - Y =/= X" is not true except for X=1.
XY - Y = X
reordered as
Y(X-1) = X
reordered as
Y=X/(X-1)
for easier visualization you can see that domain of the solution set includes all real numbers except 1, and the range of the solution set includes all real numbers.
