That's because your GPU (which you need to install the drivers for, by the way) isn't doing the rendering at all. Unreal (Tournament) have a software (read: CPU) render that can be used if no hardware acceleration is present.
Is there a non-bloated way for ZDoom to have some projectile lights like those in Unreal or Unreal Tournament? I think it's pretty good to have around b/c that might balance the work-load for the CPU. Cache might be necessary for those load times. I wonder if that might be too much of an increase in file size?

The Unreal renderer is so completely and utterly alien compared to the ZDoom renderer that this is going to be no'd.

No, I don't understand the costs in emulating UT's software render capabilities. I understand that it might be years of a painful process.

I also wonder if it's even necessary. It's like saying, "It could be cool to have those lights and shade around with sprites (no details on limbs, just the whole actor in general)". That's about the only thing I could think of as a benefit in emulating UT99's render. I know that UT99 is a bigger size w/ probably even more distributed directories around than ZDoom so I don't think I want that.

That's a good question too.

I just like the flashlight thing around certain projectiles. If anyone recalls that flashlight or fusion cannon in Unreal, there's some light/shine/glow around the projectile. Add a speed value of zero, and you got a flashlight or something like that (w/o the use of hardware graphics). It's like trying to make a ZDoom flashlight (not the lantern/visor). I don't know much about reflecting light projectiles though.

Other than flashlights, I may like to see a glowing pool, lamps, and maybe even blinking door/wall lights. I guess like to see the magnitude of multiple CPUs/RAMs. Someone could just move this topic elsewhere, since it's more of a discussion than a suggestion.

Just get a freaking video card. It's 2012. Even this garbage P4/i865g computer I'm stuck with right now can run GZDoom and other OpenGL games with dynamic lighting and all that non-sense. There is no need for such complicated software rendering solutions anymore. Modern integrated graphics are so powerful compared to the crap that existed in ~2000, it's not even funny.

Come on. In 2012 there are still notebooks which cost around 300 € but their graphics card are so shitty to have problems with gzdoom... what if someone has a limited budget?

If all games were catered to people on budgets, where would the industry be now? If people can't afford the hardware to play games, then they shouldn't expect any special treatment. Its harsh, but I used to say the same to people who wanted to play games yet insisted on using a Mac. Though, times have changed as far as that :)

... then happens what's inevitable: You can't run the software!

It's the same with smartphones: If you buy a cheap model you may not have the best experience finding apps for them as most software that's being developed is geared to higher specs.

I understand that even the lowest priced laptop has working drivers too and even me should be able to solved this by my own. There is just something I wonder about the different software render between ZDoom and UT99, but I guess that it's just the design of the software/files. I would be actually surprised if UT99's code is similar to ZDoom, but that would be quite a feat.

There difference is ones a 3D engine and one is a 2D Engine, GUESS WHICH IS WHICH

I think ZDoom is a 2.5D engine, which is really cool. Three-dimensionality, yet mindful of the graphics/audio load. :D
