TUD's retired, eh? That's a shame, although as I've not played any of his Raven stuff, I suppose there's more to explore from him if I want to!

This was a really interesting read - I don't really have much else for comments on it though...

After several weeks of inactivity, I've finally had a chance to post my interview with Sergeant_Mark_IV. In case you're wondering, he's the creator of the popular Brütal DooM mod.

Hot on the heels of my interview with Sergeant_Mark_IV, I have completed and posted an interview with DBThanatos.

Next up: kmxexii, of Doomed: Doom WAD Reviews.

Code Imp of DooM Builder fame is slated after that.

Dumb question maybe, but why do you keep writing "without further adieu (sic!)" instead of "without further ado"? Is that an inside joke?

In the US (and perhaps in other English-speaking countries as well) there is the tendency to get terminology mixed up, all the while believing that what one is saying is correct. "Adieu" and "ado" are examples of words that people tend to mix up in that context without even realizing their mistake. (Imagine if Shakespeare had named his play Much Adieu About Nothing. Ha!) Another example, and one that irks me, is the use of the word "momentarily" (which means "for a moment") as a substitute for "in a few moments". Flight attendants are notorious for declaring" "We'll be landing momentarily." I want to yell: "But I want to make sure I can get off, so please, please, land for more than a moment!" Heh.

That's what the "(sic!)" is for - it signifies that the writer recognizes the egregious nature of the error. I realize I'm saying it wrong, but I go ahead and do it.

We now return you to your morally (sic!) scheduled programming.

A similar thing that I have seen appearing a [space] lot is people running the words "a" and "lot" together (there are other similar examples too). So someone might type "I have seen alot of people running 'a' and 'lot' together". This is (obviously) not correct. The words "a lot" are separate and mean a large number/amount of something. "Allot" is kind of close to "alot" and means things like "to distribute" or "apportion". An English teacher who I work with had mentioned this at a meeting and, rather alarmingly, a number of other teachers (not English teachers) didn't really see why it was a problem.

Seeing as how we are discussing words, it is not unusual for kids around here to use the word "jamp" instead up "jumped" (e.g. "I jamp off the wall") and the word "funner" to mean "more fun" (e.g. "I am watching T.V. because it is funner than reading"). Has anyone heard these words being used out with the North East of Scotland?

I did notice the use of the word "jamp" instead of "jumped", perhaps on these very forums. [EDIT: Wait a minute while I do a search.]

And here it is. I believe Cap'n Toenail is a Scot, so you have something there, Nigel.
