prototype monster not perfect :(

Postby DefconRazor32 » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:15 pm

I made this monster prototype sprite. It was never finished or done if anyone would like to finish it they can. It was gonna part of my monster resource, but i failed to finish it and lost complete time and lack of interest in it when i started doom2recolored. Anyone can use these sprites. I was gonna call this monstrosity a langolier as it was gonna have a attack like a lost soul and the idea was for it to continually attack till it's target was dead or lying immobile. for anyone who hasn't seen a langolier i'll upload a pic of it soon.

Yes, i know it's part of a pain elemental without eyes and arms. :3:

and a short quote description of the monster:

A large ball of teeth that works with its buddies to eat the world of yesterday to make room for today. They are also rumoured to eat lazy little boys.

 ZOMG da Langolierz R comin'!!!

Heh ok :) I'll try to give some advices. First, I don't really think that every floating monster should have a big mouth, or it should be perfectly, flawlessly circular. This is just unreal. Sure the Cacodemon is really nice as it is, but that's the Cacodemon. If I were you, I'd try to make drastic changes if I want to create a floating baddie.

If this helps, I show you one of my creations. This shall be an extremely nasty monster in Tristania 2 - the Diadron.

The prototype monster could have segments and a tail like a snake.
What is a flesh spawn? Is that a doom monster?

The sprite sheet posted by Enjay is the flesh spawn...

It was made by Vader (I think) a while ago.

@Reactor: I think he just wanted to make a Pain Elemental-ish monster, which he did.

Also I don't really see how that thing's remotely nasty. Looks like a slime with a bunch of melted cheese on it, actually. Although I suppose that would taste pretty nasty.

I'm not sure if the Diadron looks more like some weird melty-guy humping an inflated stomach or some poor unfortunate sweaty-guy with massively swollen gonads to me.

Yes, that exactly what i did . I wanted it to be an actual replacement tho, but i failed miserably after i lost interest in it .

I just wanna let everyone know this thing was around for quite a while. To put the history in books this monster was ages old. I just decided to post it . I'm guessing this little prototype may be atleast 3 or 4 years old from what i last remember could be older. I have no interest in finishing this monster, but if anyone wishes to put the needed frames in or not is totally up to them. I'm quite surprised this thread got so much attention tho.

That's exactly what the Diadron is - a hideously deformed mutant :) You see, I wanted to come up with something original, as most of the floating monsters are just Cacodemon-clones. Besides, there aren't any demons in Tristania 2. Here is what the Tristania 2 booklet has to say:

Class: Unknown
Mobility: Anti-grav
Armor: Heavy
Speed: Slow
Weapon: Unknown
Firepower: Light, heavy, very heavy

Probably the most disgusting abomination brought to life by the Courbée Dominate, and also one of the most fearful creatures. Its appearance suggests that this floating slob was once a normal human being, which went through a hideous mutation, growing a gigantic tumour from the abdomen, while the human being itself started to wizen in the process. It is unknown that the tumour was actually a distinctive life-form (or became one), or the fractured mind of the "host" controls this creature...it seems that the scrogged remains of the human being has no control over himself. The organs of the Diadron must be grown inside the balloon-like tumour, including the nervous system, if the Diadron has any. During the mutation, however, the Diadron have succesfully grown new kinds of organs inside - one of them sends powerful shockwaves towards the Diadron's prey, similar to electric eels, which can hardly be avoided, especially in close combats. Although the Diadron does not have any visible eyes, ears or nose, it can follow its victim around, preferably floating in mid-air (the Diadron can possibly sense the warmth of a body). Upon colliding with the prey, the Diadron is known to explode that instant - this proved to be lethal in most of the cases, so using close combat weapons is strongly discouraged. Apart from this, the Diadron appears to be quite resistant to gunfire, though it seems to be vulnerable for explosions, and Thermal Shok Launcher. The best choice is to keep yourself away from Diadrons, even their corpses - the ooze they leak may also cause harm, if stepped on without proper environmental protection.

Diadrons are very resistant to close combat, fire, and bullet weapons, but vulnerable to explosives, missiles, and high caliber guns.

So as you can see, if the "decoratedshit" is completed for the Diadron, it'll be quite a tough fella to beat - its hitscan attacks can hit you even from 50 km distance, and close combat weapons are unusable - in the moment you touch the Diadron, it would explode.
Well, this is the idea I have for a floating monster. If he wants a Pain Elemental...well, I might not be able to help...

Why is this post even here?
Do you really need to advertise your trainwreck of a mod in every single post you make?

My post (that is, this one right here that you are currently reading) may be nearly as pointless as yours, but at least it's not a massive block of shameless self-plugging.

[insert random trolling here]

If you would stop stirring up shit just for longer than 3 seconds, and you'd actually read what was this topic about, I would be extremely grateful. Obviously, you have severe problems reading simple texts, or you suffer from a severe case of unwarranted self-importance...

DefconRazor23 asked for a floating meanie. Enjay and the others answered with various suggestions. So did I. Enjay and Xuta asked about the Diadron. I responded to them. THIS is why this post is even here.
After this, you can continue babbling about the "trainwreck of a mod" of mine (like, you could actually do something half as good), we all live in a free country, you can make a clown out of yourself to your heart's content, who am I to stop you... :)
