Navigating through Wolf3d is extremely easy, using some high-school level search algorithms (mostly Dijkstra, sometimes A* when goals are known). Basically, it has to find (by looking at the overhead map) useful items, secrets, baddies and finally the exit. They all are once-only, so as soon as the bot hits them, they're collected and gone.wildweasel wrote:Printz, I've actually got a couple of questions regarding AutoWolf...
- Does it automatically know parts of the level layout, i.e. the locations of secret doors? I noticed it just running up and pushing a secret door about 35 seconds in; is it just programmed to try to search certain wall textures?
Nope, it just reacts instantly.Does the bot read how much HP an enemy has left, or is it "guessing"? Early in the video, the bot kills one of the guards with only one machinegun shot, as if it knew ahead of time that it would only take the one shot. No ammo waste going on...
It backs away from dangerous encounters (currently, point blank enemies and SS cops shooting). I should program it to be especially fearful of Mutants...Did I see the bot back away from a door that it opened? Perhaps that was a coincidence? That's a tactic I tend to use myself to keep the enemy bottlenecked.
