[MAPINFO] "NoRandomPlayerclass" Flag

Postby Xaser » Sat May 19, 2012 11:02 pm

This patch adds a "norandomplayerclass" flag which, if used, will disable the "Random" choice for player class in both the New Game and Player Setup menus.

Practically speaking, this flag is of use for scenarios where the "Random" option does not make sense in context (e.g. Psychic, where Class determines whether or not weapons auto-fire) or it breaks a script that relies on the player retaining their class after respawn, to state an example I've seen from this older suggestion thread (which can be safely closed if this is added).

Note that this patch only disables the selecting of "Random" via the menus, so entering "Playerclass Random" from the console still works just fine. That's by design, of course. ;)

I'd never really thought about it before but, yes, the ability to remove the random option makes sense IMO.

Choosing Random will randomize your class upon respawn, as well as upon initially starting a game? I did not know that. 'Course, I've never used Random anyway.

Semi-bumping this because this issue actually sniped me during a coop game of Samsara. I picked 'Random' by accident at one point due to an ancient keybind and ended up losing all of my inventory because of an unexpected class switch. Granted, Samsara isn't exactly a mod where you'd want to ever use this flag, but in cases like Psychic, very well could have forgotten to check if Random was accidentally set (since it's a 50/50 shot I'd get my preferred control scheme in such a case :P ), play through half a game, then die once and have my entire inventory stripped. Back to level 1. D:

tl;dr: I reminded myself that this exists. :P

Oh, thanks! I guess that's enough motivation to bump Psychic's required version to an SVN build once more. ;)
