Tom Hall inspired me. I spoke with him over Twitter several days ago. (Really nice guy!) I wanna make some small games and stuff like that, and eventually get to making more complex stuff.
Mostly for entertainment purposes, but never know if it may lead to something greater.

Depending on his nature, he may or may not be in for plenty of headaches with the learning process. So having some idea or where to go, or at least a realistic idea, might save on the potential, "Why am I doing this again?" factor.

I did it for three years at uni for my games development course. Pretty fun and a useful language to know if you're into any sort of programming at all. I doubt it's a skill that you'd regret having.

I've often found the polymorphism and such fancy inheritance features confusing (specifically, who is called, the father or the son).

In my experience you usually use the parent as the variable type (particularly for collections of objects) and then either typecast to call specific child functions or make sure the base class has all of the child functionality implemented in a purely virtual manner, with the children having the relevant functionality fully implemented. I'm quite out of practice these days, so I'm not sure what's best for when or how to explain it any better than that.
