Song you would love to see become Doom MIDIs

Let's face it, there are times when you come across a certain song, and you just think to yourself, "Hey, this would sound awesome in Doom as a MIDI!" Just what kind songs would you think work? Is it good enough for someone to actually make a MIDI out of it?

Since I'm bringing up the suggestion, I'd figure I'd start, but this song I picked is certainly strange choice.

Koyaanisqatsi by Phillip Glass
Spoiler:

Sort of gives off a dark temple or foreboding setting vibe. It just feels like it would fit in with a much darker toned level.

First, people on these forums have used My-Little-Pony-based avatars. That was really weird - I mean, you would probably have hard time to find two things that are more opposite than Doom and MLP. But MLP was like "internet cancer", so it was inevitable these forums became "infected" eventually.

But now you suggest to include classical music into Doom? I mean seriously, you want to replace fast and dynamic, metal-like Doom music with anything by Philip Glass? Perhaps more dynamic tracks like Mishima or maybe "Hymn" track from Akhnaten would be acceptable for Doom, but - of all possible choices - you pick Koyaanisqatsi? What does *that* have in common with Doom music?!? Erhhh, I'm probably getting too old for this.

Hmm, on the other hand, most tracks in Doom 2 are crap (compared to Doom 1, anyway), so perhaps it would be not so... inapropriate. At any rate, you are welcomed to try. Here can be found several MIDI versions of Koyaanisqatsi:

http://www.jerry-nagasaki.net/midi_en.shtml

But since Zdoom can play MP3 files directly, using MIDIs is somewhat outdated (well, except that little fact that all Koyaanisqatsi MP3 recordings are copyrighted and therefore should not be used in a Doom mod).

I've been collecting a number of these. Most of them are just there for the action-packed feel, probably for huge fast-paced maps, but there are some quite creepy things in there too.

@Weasel: I'm really liking the Yakuza 3 tracks you have linked there. Reminds me of Devil May Cry in the best ways. I might have to snag the soundtrack at some point. :P

There is a discussion that has touched on the "fast and dynamic, metal-like" nature of Doom music across at Doomworld ATM. While much of it may be metal based, I think people need to go back through the game's music and listen again. A large proportion of it is actually reasonably slow, moody music.

I agree about Doom2 music though.

"Crap" by what metric? I've always quite liked most of them.

I'm not going to be sucked into such discussion, esselfortium. If you liked Doom 2 music, good for you.

Dear common internet user, I am here on behalf of the internet society of incessant rambling and I am here to kindly ask you to cease your incessant rambling as it is making us incessant ramblers look bad. No seriously. What the hell. Ranting about My Little Pony? This isn't even the right thread!

I agree with essel, I quite like most of Doom II's tracks, and Doom II presents a wider variety of moods than the original soundtrack in my opinion.

"Message for the Arch-Vile" and "Waiting For Romero to Play" are still stuck in my head. :)

I think that is probably my favourite Doom 2 tune.

Personally, I find the Doom 2 music not so much bad as not good in comparison to Doom. I find many of the Doom tracks to be superb and I happily listen to them as part of my normal music listening. D_E1M5 in particular really stands out but there are many tunes that I consider to be very good. IMO, nothing in Doom 2 came anywhere near to the best of the tracks in Doom. On top of that, most of the Doom 2 tracks didn't really appeal to me simply from a musical PoV (ie, I don't really like many of the tunes or the style of them) and I found many of them to be quite ill-fitting for the mood of the game. I don't know, to me it just feels like Bobby Prince didn't have his muse with him when he wrote the Doom 2 sountrack as much as he did with Doom.

Mind you, I also think that the mappers were in a similar situation too.

I like the Doom II stuff, though there are some exceptions (then again there are also exceptions for Doom I). D_RUNNIN isn't bad but it does get a bit tiring after a while, I'd argue that the music played during the text intermissions is much better than that of Doom I, and there are many great level songs like Message To the Archvile.

Map04's (Between Levels), Map08's (The Dave D. Taylor Blues) and Map09's (Into Sandy's City) have to be my favorites from D2. The chapter-text theme as well. And I have to say, Map32's (The Ultimate Challenge/Conquest) is one of my favorite boss-map themes from any game.

Still partial to the original DooM music (and maps) though.
