I want as close to original experience possible, please help

So I have set the Graphics to the maximum, but I want the feel of the games to be as original as possible.
I am playing Doom, Doom II, Heretic, Hexen, and Strife

What compatibility settings or other settings should I use for each game for this?

Umm the graphics don't change gameplay at all except for some maps which use nasty software render hacks that are "fixed" in GZdoom (AV Map01)

But in the compat menu there are presets for doom there is Doom and Doom Strict I dont think there are any for Hexen, Heretic and strife... Yet

But there alway is GLPRBoom+

If you want a true vanilla experience, don't use zdoom.

There's no such thing as GLPRBoom+. There's PrBoom+ and there's GLBoom+. Neither of them will let you play Heretic, Hexen or Strife.


But then you can use Chocolate Doom v2.

Get yourself a copy of DosBox and rum the original exe with it.

Bonus points if you use Yhkwong's build, Direct3D, and use the CRT shader while using low 486 50mhz-ish cycles

I play fullscreen ZDoom with a resolution of 320x280 to get a pretty oldschool look to the game, while keeping the zdoom features in!

That CRT shader looks weird, being on a CRT monitor as I am.

Am I the only one reading the OP as him wanting to play Doom etc. with fancy G/ZDoom graphics and gameplay as close to the originals as possible? Given that interpretation, most replies so far seem surreal.

As jaegerman mentioned, there's preset Doom compatibility settings. You'd probably want to turn autoaim on and mouselook off in "Player Setup" as well, for Doom/Doom II. No clue about the other games.

That's a pretty strange resolution. Why not regular old 320x200?
