Permadeath/Lives system

I would like to see some sort of permadeath option like ManDoom. Or even a lives system like Wolfenstein 3d. I think this would add more urgency and tension to the game as opposed to unlimited lives as the game originally had.

Too much work to get this to work in the Doom engine.

You could fake it via ACS. Would require bit of thinking though.

I've already done it. My personal mod implements a lives system, though by default it's only active for co-op. It's also per level: it starts you off with a base number of lives plus a variable amount depending on how many monsters there are on that level. If all players run out of lives it restarts the level. If you run out of lives before the other players it just kills you whenever you respawn. There's also respawn death forgiveness (e.g. if you die very quickly after respawning, maybe a cyberdemon got into the start location, it doesn't count against you.)

I think I might have built an option in to change it so that it's no per level but you have a set amount of lives to get through a whole map set... don't remember...
