Okay - I've suggested this to Randy, but I guess it's ultimately up to you for you guys to decide if this is a good idea.

I've been thinking of opening an entirely new IRC server for zdoom (irc.zdoom.org) if randy and you guys are good with it and linking it to DRD Team's IRC net. Linking means it would share the same channels and nicknames as the other two nets (Skulltag being the other one), and you would only have to join one server for any of the 3 nets (meaning you could effectively be in #skulltag and #zdoom on only one connection).

Anyway, this would be up to you guys, I guess. Even if you do move to irc.drdteam.org, and then irc.zdoom.org opens, #zdoom on both "nets" would be the same #zdoom.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Moving is always a difficult thing, especially when it just suddenly happens without any obvious discussion about it being in the pipeline.

I'll still keep that other channel around in case the majority doesn't decide to move and switch the location back, but if they do it would de register after a while if nobody visits it.

Seeing how it's already apparently moved without my knowledge (shame on you for not warning us! ), I'm fine with the new server as long as we can agree on one place or the other. No sense in making a schism amongst the IRC-goers, I say.

Because I'm not too sure about this irc.drdteam.org, the feel that I don't want too many concurrent servers open at once, and the underlying fact that Espernet is a pretty cool guy (eh netsplits and doesn't afraid of anything,) I'm going to go ahead and stick with the one on espernet. :3

Iunno. Espernet has such a homely feel; I've been on it pretty much the whole time I've been on the internet itself. I suppose if I had been on irc.drdteam.org for a good reason for long while, I suppose I'd feel that way about your server too - but I haven't, so I'm not. Connecting to a big server for just one channel is kinda... enh...

Also, #ZDoom feels more like a social channel to me personally than it does a place to get help, but that's probably because I'm not one of the people who need help most of the time. I feel fine just sitting in the channel and asking questions from time to time - maybe answering a few, too - but nothing so serious that I've got to go searching for an expert.

Yeah, that, and most people that are over there seem to be over there for other channels too - and I didn't realize that when I first suggested the move. Seems I'm the odd one out, being one of the few that are on Esper net only for the #zdoom channel and nothing else.

And about the netsplits - they aren't that major a deal, but they do bug me. Every time Espernet decides to take a dump my computer lags a good bit. A smaller network doesn't suffer this problem as much.
