That wad is almost as old as Doom itself, and it's not really even an obscure wad either. It's actually on the top 100 doom wads of all time list on Doomworld and it's pretty famous for being the first wad to try to recreate a real place.

"Very hard", you say? No kidding. Most of the weapons suck, and AFAIK the only way to get health back is to use your melee weapon. You're bound to lose more health than you'll gain in the process.

I got the leech sword thing and was sorely disappointed when I found out that it doesn't work on stone imps because they're immune to your magic. Okay. It's still a SWORD, dammit. :P

But yeah, it's pretty cool.

Using bloodmagic secondary also returns health to you, but that attack is tricky, you need skill and enough space to use it properly. But nothing is better than draning life from whole swarm of zombies in one shot. Then burn their corpses to regenerate mana and continue. Only thing I disliked about this mod was that duke shotgun.

That smooth vanilla weapons mod is super cool - definitely having this autoloaded from now on. Too bad the BFG isn't done yet...

I don't know if anything more ever came from it, but Cutty's Walljumping minimod (Download here) from a while ago was pretty awesome. I still have that on autoload.

Gather2.wad

This is a vanilla-compatible wad made by, in my opinion, one of the geniuses of Doom mapping in the 90's. I remember when I was a little girl I got a computer that was being resold, and on the hard drive was a bunch of stuff that I never knew where it came from - it was where I first discovered Doom 2, and this wad, along with several others, happened to be in the same directory.

I remember that one. For some reason map02 particularly sticks in my mind.

I'd like to recommend Armadosia the mad corridor. Rather interesting wad. All the levels are huge, and full of about 150-280 monsters, but still, a Good megawad. I'll try to find a link to it soon. It should be on ID games though.

Good level design, I think.

How'd I forget about the amazing Last Resort? Far as I know compatible versions were made for both Doom and Doom 2. That was pretty cool.

Probably because you spent hours there banging your head against the wall. Seriously, a slime tunnel maze is not a good idea no matter how many radsuits you provide. :bang:
