Re: Which is the best Doom addon ever?
Storyline is an important thing for me while chosing any wad, if I find it too lame I don't even care to try it, and such is the case with A Doom Odyssey.Xaser wrote:Zen Dyn*is shot*
Seriously though, it's far too hard to declare a single "best" without taking into account what you're looking for. Like story? Claustrophobia or Massmouth 2 are great ones. Want something different? There's Action Doom and co. But if you're into good ol' Doomy gameplay, KDiZD, Thunderpeak, SiD... the list goes on and on. Which, I might add, is certainly a good thing.
[EDIT] Where the hell are my goddamn slippers? Can't find the danm things anywhere.
Re: Which is the best Doom addon ever?
I have to disagree there DoomDude. Final Fantasy, Doom is not, so the story should be secondary, or thirdary, or fourthary to the gameplay, presentation, and balance. Action Doom 2 is the only WAD I've played so far that's had a compelling story for me, to be honest. I really wanted to save my (well, Action Guy's) daughter, and the ending with Hugo, it was so satisfying to kill that hulking son of a bitch.
It is unfortunate that many Doom WADs nowadays focus on a kind of self-referrential humor and choose to be campy, at least, as far as I've seen.

I know, I was specifically referring to AD Odyssey. Most of the wads I know of have the usual plot of the last surviving marine that battles his way through infested bases, gets to Hell and beats everyone there and humankind is saved, I personally don't mind that at all but man, some trooper that kidnaps your wife and forces you to travel to Hell to rescue her, is this Doom or Mario rescuing Princess Peach? it doesn't feel at all like Doom.

Well... That DOES sound cheesy. I suppose you win this round.

I also think you should give Enjay's BGPA Missions: Liberation, or AKA njbgpabh.pk3 a try. It's great fun, if not a little on the difficult side. I'd also recommend njol.wad!

Re: Which is the best Doom addon ever?
I would recommend the following mods...
Anything by WildWeasel. No, really, he is good.
Cold as Hell, if your computer can handle it. The only game set in a bizarre 1950's/1960's cold war era...
Aeons of Death, yeah, it's a rip fest, and it has it's own issues, mostly overkill, but it's still worth it to play it and see how it works for you. Mixed opinions on it on this forum you shall have, yes. /Yoda
Neodoom. Play part of it, at least, it's pretty damn epic. Or, huge, or something.
Cyberdreams, check.
Phogus(?) the great arena. Kind of interesting.
The Sky may be. Play it once, if only to see exacty how bad something can be. So bad, it's good.
That's about it. Oh, and Community is Falling series. Just not three, too damn big. And makes you feel like you're playing Strife...Also, apparently BFGs can't kill you on God mode, despite doing around 1000-2000 damage a shot.
Keep in mind, some of these are bad, but some of them may be worth it. At least I didn't recommend Sirens.

it's "Phouse". Not really that interesting, though... okay concept but eh. Far from the best.DavidB1000 wrote:Phogus(?) the great arena.
Thanks for not mentioning Worst Hub... aww, damnit. I went and said it anyway.DavidB1000 wrote:The Sky may be. Play it once, if only to see exacty how bad something can be. So bad, it's good.
It had a pretty damn cool weapon set back in the day.DavidB1000 wrote:At least I didn't recommend Sirens.

Other than Kaiser being a douche, I don't have anything against CIF3. It's a lot of fun. Then again, I love PO'ed.DavidB1000 wrote:Community is Falling series. Just not three, too damn big.

I will just say Warzone and leave it at that. So many guns.... so much to choose from.... so many bad guys to KILL! Really the only thing it missed was the heat gun. And of course a ZDoom old enough to support it fully (like 63a).
Oh and Shotgun Frenzy. Defintely Shotgun Frenzy.
