Total Chaos - Open alpha out now!

Post by Wad'a'Holic »

Total Chaos is an upcoming total conversion mod for Doom 2 that runs on the source ports GZDoom and Zandronum.

Gameplay videos:

The mod is an open world survival horror where players are dropped on an island with a video camera to explore the deadly surroundings. The island was once run by a community of coal miners which one day suddenly disappeared, leaving behind the abandoned concrete jungle to waste away. Total Chaos is a sandbox mod, so the player has freedom of choice of either finding the lost community, surviving on their own against the islands deadly forces, or explore the island to uncover its most hidden secrets.

A screenshot!
Spoiler:
There are no guns in Total Chaos, instead the players must use their wit and the hazards they find in the environment to defend themselves.
Light fires to destroy those who hunt you down, set traps to take down unsuspected enemies. Blunt weapons can be found on the island, but close combat is not recommended.

An open alpha of the mod can be downloaded here:

Not to sound like a pedantic, but could you make up your mind? =P

And while the screenshots look good, I sure hope you spend more time on gameplay than you do layering additive lines on top of each other. Sorry if I sound like I'm bitching about it, but I'm in a bit of a bitter mood lately.

In the screenshot with the neon lights... everything is falling apart or dimly lit, yet the neon lights are shining brightly... almost untouched. Judging by the rest of the screenshot, the neon lights probably wouldn't even have any power at all.

Other than that... looks very good and I am eagerly waiting for any updates :)

I was wondering when this was gonna be made for Gzdoom...

I like how you made the player speed slower. Its like you actually made it realistic. But the player bob... looks stupid. It just does. Anyway, I hope you get good progress on this cuz it will sure be a great wad. Someone is finally stepping to the advanced side.

Awesome job. The heavy breathing sound from the player + narrow hallways + lights dieing down creates that special spooky atmosphere. Hopefully this wad is not going to be too laggy.
