Something Interesting I've noticed
Something Interesting I've noticed
So ever since I first played Brutal Doom v20, Ive noticed something rather peculiar.
Even when I play without mods, all the sounds seem to have an interesting "Depth" to them. For example, combat from afar will sound muffled and running out of a teleporter will muffle its sound as well.
Just something interesting I noticed. Or is that meant to happen in (G)Zdoom?

Perhaps actually not loading said mods would give you a better/faster answer to such a vague question?

Ahem. We don't call each other idiots around here, and it doesn't matter what the target has done before.Raziel236 wrote:don't worry about 850, that's just the forum idiot. one of them anyway.
[edit] Or to put it in more familiar terms: DO NOT ENGAGE. DO NOT ENGAGE.
Re: Something Interesting I've noticed
and yet passive aggressiveism is constantly ignored.
Re: Something Interesting I've noticed
I'm not even sure what you're going on about. It's a straight forward diagnostics question, Raziel, "can you reproduce the behaviour under normal conditions?".
If you think that's passive aggressive, you must hate all servicing techs.
The thing is, ZDoom certainly doesn't apply filtering to distance (although it does apply a Doppler effect), and "depth" is a rather vague description of the alleged conditions.

no, the sentence "can you reproduce the behaviour under normal conditions?" is the sentence "can you reproduce the behaviour under normal conditions".
and considering the post already said "even when playing without mods", then the answer is assumedly yes. It's noticeable that these kinds of posts often seem ignorant to the original post.

Would appreciate it if you guys didn't fight it out in this thread, please.

When I complained in that one Off-Topic thread about the amount of hostility on this forum, this kind of problem is more or less exactly what I was talking about, and I really don't get why it's forgiven for as long as it is.wildweasel wrote:Would appreciate it if you guys didn't fight it out in this thread, please.

It's a mod thing, and it's rather easy to do - but it causes many other issues. The muffled sound is played regardless, which can give sounds a 'muddy' effect. Just play two sounds; one with a short fall out distance and another with a fall out distance of well over 1024, and tada; "depth".

A.k.a Fake LPF
I was thinking in make such thing in my mod, but nah, in the end this just occupies size for a simple thing that can be made with sound processing itself (if Zdoom had)

Since fmod supports A3D, maybe with some aureal sound card you may get some cool results (at least the only sound card with real hardware processing about positoinal audio)

I kinda blame myself for bringing that guy in, unintentionally. :V
