When i played threw Doom using GZDoom, I could always see the specter demons coming easily. But, with ZDoom they are way harder to spot. Sometimes, they blend in so well, I don't even see them coming and get startled when I hear my flesh getting eaten and ripped apart (headphones definitely make the experience better lol). All I can say is, I'm very happy I chose ZDoom this time around instead of GZDoom. I'm enjoying Doom way more playing it with software render instead of OpenGL. I do wish the software render had 32-bit color support though.
