Savegame compatibility between ZDoom & GZDoom

Just wondering, is there a compatibility between ZDoom and GZDoom when it comes to savegames?

Not at all.

In fact, a GZDoom save made in software renderer mode cannot be loaded in OpenGL mode and vice-versa.

There are objects that the OpenGL renderer needs that are serialized. The software renderer doesn't need them and therefore doesn't create them.

Okay. I guess GZDoom needs to store extra data in order to function properly, right?

So GZDoom with opengl renderer cannot open the savegames created by software renderer, but why can't you open a savegame created with opengl renderer in zdoom or in gzdoom with software renderer?

Is it difficult to convert the two formats? Zandronum CAN do it, because you can select the renderer at startup. How did they do that? :?
