I'd really honestly like to see where this goes. I tried reverse-lookups on just about every aspect of this guy and can't find anything that definitively proves that he isn't actually John Romero...

From IRC just now:

Code: Select allExpand view
<Blzut3> Xaser, despite it not being romero's real address.  rome.ro and romero.com have the same mx records
<wildweasel> I specifically googled "john@romero.com" and found his Twitter feed where he left a tweet saying that john@romero.com is his new address
<wildweasel> his website has not been updated for a couple of months

I'm fine with being wrong, for the record. Just some curious circumstances, to say the least. :P

Having no previous knowledge of the domain romero.com, I was unable to verify it based on public records. A proxy registrant was employed.
Spoiler: Whois stuff
With only this information, there's certainly low accountability on the domain owner's part. Is the twitter feed verified?

The suggested reason for using Domain By Proxy is to dodge spam by not publishing your contact information, and that might also be one reason (among several) for abandoning an old address. Also, w w w . r o m e r o . c o m is a somewhat plausible website (although I couldn't immediately determine its legitimacy) hosted on this domain. So maybe. I don't readily trust a domain I can't trace.

@FDARI John has a verified twitter account yes it's @Romero and has the verification tick, was the tweet sent from that one?

This sounds quite interesting, I hope one of the ZDoom developers will agree to get in contact, as I see nothing to lose (and why isn't that message more informative -- for discretion, developers of a game aren't going to be too vocal in a fan community forum).

Indeed, sending a private message to randy would probably be the best idea. Although if you're after a quick result sending a pm to Graf Zahl may be the way to go, as he's on the forums frequently.

You'd think that someone like Romero would:
    1. Know how to find out the names of ZDooM's developers
    2. Know that Randy is the key ZDooM guy
    3. Know that it would probably be better to PM or email than to post on a general forum
Ah, well. Maybe some cannabis was involved.

Xaser, look at what you started. :P By the way I sent him an email and yes this is Romero. He's looking to get in touch with the person most knowledgable about ZDoom, so Randy.
