[Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL renderer
[Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL renderer
It's almost 2012, and I'm just curious how many users out there are still on hardware that cannot run GZDoom's OpenGL renderer.
Also, if you have anything you'd like to share regarding the OpenGL renderer's performance on your system, feel free.
Thanks.

Re: [Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL rend
GZD's OpenGL renderer runs unreliably on both of my systems, specifically on projects that require GZDoom. It burned one of my graphics cards. I still voted Yes because even with a downgraded card on that specific system it still runs, just ... not very well.

What kind of problems do you face PDF? Are they really that bad?

I generally turn off everything the OpenGL system has to offer, even dynamic lights and smooth shading for a little extra FPS (and to maintain the retro look I so prefer). I still keep it on the hardware renderer when I do run GZDoom.Nash wrote:What kind of problems do you face PDF? Are they really that bad?

Both my desktop and my netbook can run the OpenGL renderer (the latter of which I'm surprised at, considering Intel GMA is not especially well-supported by most OpenGL-related things). The desktop machine has a GeForce GTX460 SE, so it comes as no surprise that it works. =P
Re: [Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL rend
My old Dell Dimension 2350 could run OpenGL for most mods that weren't resource intensive. It didn't have support for any shaders, and dynamic lights made the frame rate drop to about 2 FPS. I don't remember when it was made, but I want to say 2002. That computer couldn't even run Warcraft 3 on low settings without framerate issues.

Yes and no. I can usually run GZDoom's GL without a hitch, but considering it's an Intel GMA, sometimes it will crash (or worse, bluescreen the entire computer) and completely cease working to a point where I have to reboot the computer just to get it functioning again.

Runs smooth with everything turned up, just running something like Particle Fire Enhancer Mod would make my frames drop especially firing the plasma rifle

Except for Reinchard's DoR. your 'Map with lots of models, please test' and some Sunder maps I don't have any perceptible slowdowns.
For GZDoom it seems that Nvidia videocards in the 8800, 9800 or the GTX200 series fare best.
Re: [Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL rend
The data from this survey thus far is very confusing. I am seeing a lot of "Yes" votes, but every post in this thread is talking about bad performances... concluding something here may be kind of difficult... :S

We can run it, but we all have different limits to it. I don't think you were specific enough is all

Okay, I updated the poll. Please revote, everyone.
Re: [Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL rend
I can run GZDoom just fine, and I only get noticeable slowdowns on certain mods, mostly more recent ones like Stronghold.

If you want a true measure, you could ask for everyone to rerun Graf's benchmark test from a year ago.

and attach the benchmarks_date_time.txt to the post,
perhaps with the videocard type appended, eg: GTX460_benchmarks_date_time.txt

Re: [Survey] How many of you CANNOT run GZDoom's OpenGL rend
I have absolutely no problems whatsoever running GZDoom. As Kappes Buur noted above, the GTX200 series cards run GZDoom well and I have a GTX285. One of the main things that I took into consideration when making up my machine was that I wanted it to run GZDoom well because it is the OpenGL application that I use the most. If you want my benchmarks, I think they should be the same as the ones still attached to the thread that Kappes linked to.
