The Best and Worst of ZDoom 2006

Well, it's pretty much nearing the end of November, which means 2006 is coming to a close very very soon.

The purpose of this thread is to talk about the top ZDoom WADs and for that matter, the worst ZDoom WADs that were released in 2006. GZDoom and Skulltag may be mentioned since both are derivatives of ZDoom.

ZDoom Megawad of the Year:

My vote goes towards DO-TIMS. DO-TIMS is funny and fun to play. In DO-TIMS, you have to go through infected "websites" and get rid of the viruses to avoid jail time. You will get to take out your revenge on having to wait in a long queue in fileplanet. You will get to go on a ship full of pirates infected with AIDS. You will get to answer questions about the wad in a trivia game.

DO-TIMS comes with a Story Mode, an Arcade Mode, a Survival Mode, and a secret mode that you have to find out about yourself!

Worst ZDoom Megawad of the Year:

My vote goes towards The New Adventure. It comes with two new enemies, one of them being a cacodemon with more health that you must kill with a shotgun. The second one is sinply a replaced Lost Soul with a lame sound. The wad also comes with new textures, but they did not impress me. The wad was pretty boring.

ZDoom Monster of the Year (DECORATE):

My vote goes to the Ghoul in The Ghoul's Forest #2. That was one scary wad. I do not wish to say too much for those who haven't played it, but you start out in a dark forest all alone when suddenly...

ZDoom Map of the Year (Non-Megawads):

Dammit I'm still thinking about this one.

ZDoom Worst Map(s) of the Year (Non-Megawads):

The definite winner of this one is each and everyone of those Gamarra Sucks maps. Who cares whether Gamarra sucks when it's those maps who suck? Each and every single one of them. Dammit when will he stop?

ZDoom Person of the Year:

This award goes to the person that has contributed the most to the ZDoom Community besides Randy Heit (who gets special mention for creating ZDoom). One person!

I'm still thinking about this one, but I do give the legitimate KDIZD people a lot of credit for putting up with the leak.

ZDoom Scumbag of the Year:

This award goes to the person who has done the most damage to the ZDoom Community or to the biggest asshole on the ZDoom Forums this year (banned people count too).

My vote goes to ultra_zdoomer for leaking KDIZD. No questions asked.

Heh. Nice. I'll bite.

Best ZDoom Megawad of 2006:
Ultimate Simplicity. It's awesome. Period.

Worst ZDoom Megawad of 2006:
The New Adventure. It sucks. Period.

ZDoom Monster of the Year (DECORATE):
Uh, not sure about this one. Probably the Hell's Battery in Zen Dynamics. Damnit, I love LWM's work. 8-)

ZDoom Map of the Year (Non-Megawads):
Probably ZDCMP1. Or was that 2005? I don't know. I haven't been here for long.

ZDoom Worst Map(s) of the Year (Non-Megawads):
Umm. Don't know. Probably Batma.

ZDoom Person of the Year:
Why, Tormentor of course.

ZDoom Worst Scumbag Award:
Me. Duh. :P

I haven't even been back a year yet, but I'd still have to say the best megawad award easily goes to Foreverhood.

Also the worst scumbag award could only go to one person, and I think they know who they are.

For some reason the only ZDoom wad that I can remember is Power Dolls.

Best ZDoom Megawad of 2006:
Ultimate Simplicity (although unfinished).

Worst ZDoom Megawad of 2006:
Dunno, I don't even bother to check out a wad if it's not above a certain level of quality (judging from user comments and screenshots).

ZDoom Monster of the Year (DECORATE):
Something from Demon Eclipse... propably the modfied Revenant (can't remember the name right now)

ZDoom Map of the Year (Non-Megawads):
DEmon Eclipse Episode 2, as it isn't really a megawad I'll put it here.
It's a real shame Eriance won't make the planned episode 3 :(

ZDoom Worst Map(s) of the Year (Non-Megawads):
Dunno, look above.

ZDoom Person of the Year:
Hmm... me?

ZDoom Worst Scumbag Award:
The one person starting with H and ending with obbs

Wait, that got released?

Hell's Battery was made in 2005.

ZDCMP1 was either 2004 or 2005.

Remember folks, these apply to wads made in 2006!

Anyways, I did consider Simplicity for the Best Megawad title, but decided to wait until it was released (meaning it would be considered for the Best and Worst ZDoom WADs of 2007).

I disagree. It's just a demo, and not even an extensive one at that.

My vote for Zdoom Person of 2006 has got to go to:
XASER!

Speaking of monsters, I forgot Weapons!

Haven't thought of one though.

Best ZDoom Megawad of 2006:
Ultimate Simplicity, definite choice!

ZDoom Map of the Year (Non-Megawads):
Sapphire. ... hehe ;) No, I really liked Phoca's Island 2... amazing wad and a totally new doom experience!

ZDoom Person of the Year:
Graf Zahl for hundreds of reasons I can think of right now!

ZDoom Worst Scumbag Award:
Everyone contributing to the KDiZD leaks!

It's also arguably the most original mod ever released for Doom (certainly that I've played) and one of the best uses of the ZDoom engine's capabilities.

If there was a category for best demo I'd have put it there. :P

Popularity contests usually end in tears, so I and the other mods will be watching this one carefully.

However, I do think I'll say some stuff here, as it is something I deem worth doing.

Megawad of the Year:

Hmm, this is difficult. A lot of the recent releases haven't caught my attention. Simplicity was damn good, and the only other megawad from this year I can think of (aside from my own) was ZBloodPack, which isn't all that good. If Zen Dynamics counts, I'll say that. Otherwise, it's NeoDoom.

Worst Megawad:

I dunno. I don't like most jokewads. Probably DO-TIMS, as I actually played that and was horribly dissappointed.

Monster of the Year:

DE monsters didn't impress me much. I can't remember what year the Arch-Henious came out, so I'll not say that just in case I'm wrong...

Probably be cutty's ghoul's forest 2 ghoul, or One of the cleverer monsters from Will's jokewads.

Weapon of the Year:

PORTAL GUN

Map of the Year:

I've loved some of the maps released this year. Really I have. The choices are very varied. A lot of fairly average maps, some really amazing ones, and some dissappointments. To pick one would be harsh on many others, but I'll do it anyway. I think I'll go with HTI2, as it was great for me.

Worst Map of the Year:

Too many to decide with any real deliberation. A gammarra wad.

Person of the Year:

The part that will cause problems. If I had to choose (based purely on my opinions) it'd either be me (to remain neutral :P) or somebody like Xaser or solarsnowfall. Maybe Graf Zahl actually. People who have acheived a lot technically.

Scumbag award:

I dunno... PH for putting it in. :P
