True. On various forums i've had moderators lock topics after we were having a good discussion but apparently it "looked" like an argument or a flamewar.

if you're going to start arguing about stuff then shove off.
This is most true. Too many people say stuff similair to: "hay, this is the zdoom forums, the place of drama and comedy and retards". It's those people who contribute to what they claim these forums to be.

Yeah yeah, I said in Jimmy91's apology thread stuff similair, but painted with an emoticon, twas a slight joke. I'm not bothered by drama or emotional stuff of others, or mine. Those who are-should be relieved from their pain by clicking the "x" in the upper right corner of their web browser instead of the post reply button. Only too many people decide to post anyway how much forums they are a part of stink and such, and be a jerk to others.
Go figure.

From my apology thread on I decided to check my posts VERY thoroughly for inside offences, so nobody thinks I'm a jerk. I'm a good guy, really. :D

Is there any place for the community to just have some fun? I mean, if it's not here in these forums, perhaps IRC or some othr place? I know I sometimes just want to hang out without really being on any sort of topic.

the fact there is a focused attention on rules and policies and drama makes this forum have a bad atmosphere.

I miss the unmoderated zdoom forum days, it was actually better behaved then actually

Quoted because that's what I originally felt when I originally came here.

We need an IRC channel that isn't that crappy off-topic one in OFTC, :P

My 2 cents: I feel that mass banning as a matter of regular policy is bad practice.

If I log in and find a flame war reported, I will either delete the offending posts and try to salvage the thread, or I will simply lock it, depending on how I feel. Most often, however, I find posts that don't seem to be reported for any good reason at all, so I just unreport them.

Remember the phorum days? I didn't even have moderator access back then thanks to an oversight, but I rarely felt any need for moderator action either. (I did have moderator access for the discus board that it replaced, though. Who here remembers when the ZDoom forums were running off of Discus?)

Fondly, yes. (wipes away a tear)

I *think* I do, but I wasn't an active contributor then. I think I became more involved with the forums, and actually started posting when Zdoom was at version 1.17c (maybe 1.14, but I think 1.17c) although I'm pretty sure the first version I DLd and tried to use was 1.11. How would the dates of "Discuss" vs "Phorum" relate to whatever was the current version of Zdoom at the time?

Demon Hunter it was. But you could be forgiven for not remembering his name because he himself would spell it a number of different ways (Demon_Hunter, Daemon_Hunter, Deamon_Hunter...) :laff:

Heh, remember his frequent and repeated requests for things like Zdoom to support Quake2 or features that were simply not ever going to be part of the Doom engine, despite being told time and time again it wouldn't happen? And how he kept referring to Kokak of ZdoomGL as Kodak...

And you're right, I do recall him as being the only serious n00b-like person. I guess that's why he stands out. Ahhh, life seemed so much simpler then.

Anyway, all this nostalgia is offtopicness.

This forum needs more ZDoom and less everything else.
