Before posting your Resource, please make sure you can answer YES to any of the following questions:
  • Is the resource ENTIRELY my own work?
  • If no to the previous one, do I have permission from the original author?
  • If no to the previous one, did I put a reasonable amount of work into the resource myself, such that the changes are noticeably different from the source that I could take credit for them?
If you answered no to all three, maybe you should consider taking your stuff somewhere other than the Resources forum.

Consult the Resource/Request Posting Guidelines for more information.

Please don't put requests here! They have their own forum --> here. Thank you!

[Resources] Doom Source Art 1993-1994 (Updated)

Post by Kinsie »

These are old Deluxepaint source files for some of Doom's artwork, circa 1993-1994, posted on Twitter by John Romero over the last couple of days for, well, us jerks to gawp at and play with.

A lot of these aren't completely useful (half-cleaned sketches or scans of clay models), and others won't be new to you (bullet casings), but there's a lot of fun stuff in there, like new gore sprites, bushes and trees, the prototype BFG, a different bigfont and lots of unused textures.

The images are the raw files provided by Romero - I simply did a quick resize of the PNGs from 3200x2000 (blown up for Twitter use, obviously) down to the original 320x200 for ease of use, and claim no credit for anything inside.

Download!

They certainly are. :D

I made a version of the human BBQ decoration without the body, and an equivalent one for the fire can.

Looks cool, but it could use some better kerning, it's not a monospaced font.

That is not supposed to be monospaced, that's just a grid to separate letters while working which is a repeating theme in all of the released graphics.

So i guess the circuit board textures are based on a motherboard and some pci card.

PCI? Probably more like ISA. PCI was just starting to come in when Doom was being made.
