Foreverhood Returns

Post by skadoomer »

For those of you who have forgotten the project I was announcing last spring, hereis the thread for reference

After this was posted, the project was dropped due to class limitations on the project. Originally I was supposed to make a DVD or an intangible world for the user to explore, but I convinced my teacher to let me make a doom mod. After the project premiered, it received an overwhelming demand for more. With that I mind, my Professor and i drew up plans at the end of the semester to turn that into my senior project for art and design (although the design aspect of it in the sense of graphic design is somewhat questionable).

Finally, after a summer of writing an official story and outline for the project (which tops 40 pages), Foreverhood has become an unexpected reality and bizarre doom mod.

Check it out; currently I’m trying to get into the swing of things in producing levels and tweaking textures and what not. Stay tuned for more updates.

I'm glad to see this project is still active. Good luck with it and I hope to play it sometime.

That looks like a great mod. I assume you take inspiration from The Neverhood? In that case...it rules.

I'm very interested in the project and happy to see it still alive. As I told you when we spoke before, I'd be willing to help in whatever way I can. Please feel free to ask.

Glad to hear it. I figured you were working on it in the background the whole time when you could get the chance.

Woot!

I am so glad that this didn't die, as so many projects do.

It's looks like it will be one of the most visually distinctive Doom mods out there.

As we said months ago, keep it up! :)

glad to see the approving head nodes from everyone. Since this is such a bizarre and large project, i might need some help from time to time, but i'll keep everyone posted on that.

Btw, does anyone know of any good texture resource websites or help tutorials on making outdoor like pannels? I feel like some of my textures are looking more photoshoped than real or convincing.

Oh brother, you don't even WANT me to tell you. I've got millions of those at home (in the favorites folder). There are a ridiculous number of resources and sites out there, and a lot of them aer Doom-related, and a lot of them have amazing outdoorsy textures that you could use. Since I can't help you right at this moment I suggest you google a bit for it for now! :)

Right, updated the site with some shots from a second level i have been working on. Too add a degree of realism, i've added in tree branches to give the canyon more of an errie feel to it. Heres a shot:
Image

I've been getting a lot of feedback that my work looks like that of Tim Burton, but i've never really followed any of the work he has made (aside the nightmare before christmas) If anything, H.R. Geiger has been more of an inflounce of mine, and even still i'd have to say his inflounce isn't substancial to this project.

I'm signing up for courses for my final semister of colledge and have had to write numerious statements of why i chose to do a project basted on the doom engine of all things. Aside the obvious answer that doom is the greatest game of all time, i began to think about the potential future this classic game holds to the gaming community as a whole. With randy working hard on incorporating all the systems of the 5 games into one unified group, we are potentially seeing the execution of the ideals of the orge concept brought to life. Personally, i hope thats the route zdoom will eventually choose to follow; an engine that supports and plays all 5 games, but in general is a 3d gaming engine ideal for independent games to thrive upon. But who knows, there are still so many bugs to be fixed and randy is only one guy..girl... er... toaster like thing.

Way to go. This looks excellent.
Definitely the project I'm most looking forward to (aside from KDIZD).
