Sprite Sheet and Request - Mars3D Mech

Post by Enjay »

Image

I quite like the cyborg sprite from Mars3D which looks like it is based off an edit of the Doom imp. However, it has an asymmetric appearance (gun in one hand) but only has sprite angles 1 to 5. So I set about making angles 6 to 8. I was a little disappointed to notice that sprites A and C are basically the same but I couldn't be bothered (ie not enough skill) to do anything about that.

So, I present to you a sprite sheet of the Mars3D cyborg with all 8 angles. I also added a "standing still" frame (in the gif above) which is something that I personally find quite useful in sprite sets. The edits aren't great because my skill is limited and, to be fair, some of the original sprites are a little lacking too. So, feel free to improve them if you want to use them. (If you do any edits, please post them.)

And now my request. Does anyone fancy making an additional animation (say 2 frames worth) of the cyborg with a punching action with the non-weapon arm? I'd quite like to use the sprite and I feel that it would benefit from a melee-range attack. A good, hard punch from a metal fist seems entirely appropriate. I did try myself but my attempts just ended up looking comical.

[edit: correction to 1 frame]

Awesome edits! I may give your request a shot tonight, can't 100% guarantee I'll be able to help, but I'm thinking I'd use the Golem from Heretic's melee attack animation as influence.

Thanks. :)

The golem punch might work well. It's a nice big swing-thump animation. I tried using the imp scratch animation (seeing as how the sprite is based on the imp already) but I couldn't get it to look right.

Ooh, I'll update my Lifelong Strife mod with this.
Nice work, are you interested in some more lucrative projects? [/Strife joke]

WIP, not even close to done but I thought I'd show I'm doing something with it.

Mainly, what do you all think about the armor plate? Once I get that right the arm should be easy.

That's cool. If I know you are doing it, then I can do other bits and pieces in the meantime. It's much appreciated.

Are you planning on making a 2 or 3 frame punch? Either is fine (whatever you think is best). I just thought I might look at some possible DECORATE code while you are doing the visuals.

Most likely 3, and I will make them 8 sided too.

Update: I'm going to try and have it done by Sunday (USA time and stuff), if not, I will post whatever I do have finished here. I'm probably going to make a rough version that shows how the animation would play out and then improve it to look good.

Been working on it, I might need a little help actually. If someone can help me do the front frames I should have no problem doing the rest.

It's turning out to be a lot harder than I imagined.

I actually think it's looking pretty good already. It is a little stiff/mechanical but that really doesn't matter for a cyborg - in fact it could be a plus point. :D

What else do you think needs doing for the front images?
